He's no Herm Edwards!!!

Seriously, I'd put both in the top 20 since the AFL/NFL merger. One would have to look deeper to see about top 20 in NFL history.

Coughlin's an excellent coach. I'd honestly rather have him coach my team than Belichick.
I remain convinced that Belichick is a product of Tom Brady. Eli Manning is not Tom Brady and Coughlin's managed to win big with an expansion team as well. I think it's a close call...which says all that needs to be said about how worthy Coughlin is for inclusion in this list. He's an outstanding head coach.

He took an expansion team to the AFC title game - TWICE! With guys he picked himself. The 1st run was the 2nd year of the team's existence. When he was with the Jags, they had a superb offense and better than average defense.
He leaves and the Jags have been crap ever since. Oh, and there's those 2 rings...

He has won Superbowls after fighting through a pretty damn tough division.
If the Jags didn't choke against the Titans he might have another ring. |

Winning is all that matters. Coughin delivers.

it was already stated, but wat? He could be higher. The guy won with an expansion team and did win later on twice.

I know Coughlin is a good coach, but I'm not sure he's worthy to make this list. My only beef is what did Coughlin do to change the NFL? What innovations did he bring to the game?
