Bruce Arians is off to a rocky, rocky start

I know, I know. I've said a lot about this. But I swear, there's new information in here that hasn't been brought up on CP. Be glad the Chiefs didn't hire him. I give him 2-3 years tops before he's on the hot seat.

Here's what we're learning:

• Like ***** and Carl Peterson, he hires his croney friends. "There will be a common thread in this coaching staff," he said. "They will have either played for me, coached for me, some as far back as 30 years." Uh oh.
• He demanded that Todd Bowles be his guy. The guy is going to be a disaster of a DC. Uh oh.
• Remember that shitty 2-gap scheme that's outdated and ineffective? Guess who's spent almost his entire career coaching it? That's right. Todd Bowles. More than likely, he's replacing a perfectly good scheme for a shitty one.
• jasonsauto, this one's for you. There is growing proof that Arians was going to hire Bowles no matter what. See the links below.
• Arians wants to coach and call plays, and he hired a ridiculous inexperienced yes-man to be his OC. Isn't it clear this is a lousy model?

Andy Reid doesn't know anyone that he hired.

No other coach in history hires people they know or consider their friends.

Arians wants to coach and call plays, and he hired a ridiculous inexperienced yes-man to be his OC. Isn't it clear this is a lousy model?

The double standard in that comment is amazing.

Look at coaches who did the right thing. I'm not Andy Reid cheerleader by any stretch, but he knew the Chiefs ran a 3-4, and he hired a coach outside of his tree to run the defense. He picked a defense to fit the scheme. Even if Reid will call the plays, he also hired a strong assistant in Brad Childress who will undoubtedly be heavily involved in gameplanning.

Why would you rip Reid when he's been there, done it, is a proven HC and has shown the ability to lead teams in the past. He has experience on his side. Arians gets ripped cause he's never proven that he could handle these duties.

I'm not saying Reid won't succeed in KC, but if you rip Arians for hiring an OC who has no previous experience and Arians will call the plays, would it not be fair to do the same with Reid?

These aren't the same thing. Trust me, I'm not a Reid cheerleader, so I'm not creating a double standard here. Reid hired a very experienced offensive guy in Childress who will undoubtedly help Reid in coordinating the offense and preparing the game plans. Arians is about to repeat the same dumb mistake Haley made in 2009, when he underestimated the massive amount of work he will have to do on the administrative and leadership side of being a head coach. Haley looked unbelievably stressed his first year. Reid has done this for many years. He has shown he can do this, and my guess is, that as Pederson becomes more experienced Reid will let Pederson have more control over the offense.

You keep saying Reid hired Childress. Can you link that for us?

Goodwin has previous experience for helping to draw up a game plan for the offense with Pittsburgh as a quality control coach.

Arians has more experience as a coach before he was hired as HC than Haley did.
