Vincent Jackson wants no franchise tag "for life"??

Vincent Jackson remains a thorn in side of labor deal

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on July 22, 2011, 4:44 PM EDT
AP

Patriots guard Logan Mankins made it clear Thursday he’s not looking for anything in return for being an antitrust plaintiff. As Florio mentioned last night, Vincent Jackson remains a bit of a problem.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Jackson continues to demand $10 million or no franchise tag for life, despite Jackson’s public claims to the contrary. While Jackson hasn’t made the demands himself (of course), people “close to him” have made the demands.

Florio mentioned the NFLPA* fears a lawsuit from Jackson. The Chargers receiver has somehow become an issue for both sides of the labor dispute.

It’s unclear how Jackson’s situation will be resolved, but it would be shocking for the NFL to back down and give Jackson anything. Schefter suggests Jackson could continue to sue the league even after the antitrust plaintiffs step down.

He will want top dollar, so don't expect to see him in a Pats or Chiefs uni...

If we had Bowe, Jackson, Breaston and Baldwin we should just bring back the run and shoot. Four wides every down. Kill everyone with delay draws to Charles, bombs to Jackson and Baldwin, quick slants to Bowe and drags to Breaston.

Best part of this plan is we don't need to draft a first round QB. Just draft OL, and bring back Warren Moon or Jeff George.

As pass happy as this league is now the Run and Shoot could probably do better than it did back in the Oilers days. And really it wasn't THAT bad. I remember Warren Moon lighting us up at home for 500+ yards in that system. Then again I remember DT terrorizing Moon at Houston in that system too.

Technically we could probably be wide open right NOW if we had the proper QB.

This will make Cassel look like God. As impossible this sounds, it's true.

I still don't think we have the speed. Lenny points out quite often how our WR's are never open. I don't know if that was our offensive scheme flaw or what but do you remember when our WR's were just running wide open every play? We have two jump ball-posession receivers and a good slot guy in Breaston. We need a DeSaun Jackson to run a wide open offense all the time. Someone who can really stretch the field and open up the middle.

No, it would only expose him.

He'd throw for 4,000 yards with 25 INT.

Yeah, that's why we averaged 260 yards passing the last three weeks. Because our receivers couldn't get open.

Vjax would be a good add for any system.

Hell the Rams should sign him and draft Kalil.

We need a burner. Someone who can just run by people.

Yeah but that was a lot of PA too. You want to line up 4 wide then you are telegraphing pass and you have to have guys who can burn coverage. I am not sold that we have those types of receivers.

You don't have to pass every down with 4 wide. If the opposition fears your passing game enough the running lanes are going to be wide open, especially if your 4th receiver is Moeaki who can come in motion and block.

Then you are talking more of a Vermeil (Chiefs) offense as opposed to a wide open\run and shoot type.
