I have a co-worker that sells a dozen tamales for $10. Takes orders once a week. They're awesome! Funny thing is she's from Peru.

Get on Amazon and do a little research on the books available. I had a co-worker that loves Tamales and found a book from a woman in California that had her own restaurant and had lots of Tamale recipes in it and how to, including dessert Tamales.

I never thought that this would happen - but I swear to god I ate tamales for supper out at my mother's house, I eat them maybe once every six or seven years - then, once I got home, I saw this thread. OMG - it's so neat how it all happened like that.

Those Alton Brown vids were the turning point. We made tamales for dinner today.
Everything went smoothly, and they were very tasty. We used the Masa version of the dough instead of the Corn Meal version popular in the Mississippi Delta Hot Tamales. It's like pizza, I'll never run out of different combinations of fillings to use. Give it a try if you've been hesitant. |
