Talks with Eric Berry for extension 'ramping up'
Per Ian Rapoport. To the few out there who think we don't need this guy for a good price, happy to see that the front office is of course on the right side. |

If we were crazy enough to let Berry walk out the door we go from the deepest and best safety group arguably in the league to one of the worst. We don't even have Abdullah and/or Branch under contract. |

No shortshop in the game has as good 2 way game like Tulowitzki. When you've been hitting and playing great defense at the shortshop position better than anybody else year after year, you deserve to be called the best shortshop in the game. |

But there was one guy who never did. Troy Tulowitzki. "**** the Jays have men on base, here comes another couple of... oh wait, it's Troy Tulo. Nevermind. We'll be fine." Seriously, I said those words out loud while watching ALCS games this fall. |

OHMYGOSH, using the Patriots as an example? Ok, tell me who their safeties are. Now, tell me who their QB is. The Patriots are good because they've had one of the best QBs in football for several years. As long as you have a premier QB, you're pretty much set (unless the guy gets hurt....ask Indy and Pittsburgh). And what's so wrong about "not paying anyone too much"? Do you really want to pay someone too much? Who's the moron......oops, I mean ****ing moron? But personal issues aside, SNR, I think the main issue is what each of us feel is a "fair deal" for Berry. You obviously think he's a key piece, and I don't feel it's prudent to put too many $$$ into the safety position. One moron to another.... |

They let talented players walk all the time, especially on defense. That's the point I was making. But they do spend money on guys like Julian Edelman and Rob ****ing Ninkovich because they're key cogs to that team. Safety isn't interior offensive line. It's not the SAM backer in a 3-4. It's not fullback. It has value to your team if you get a phenomenal player in that position because that player is phenomenal. The safety position isn't as limited to its function in a defense as much as you think it is as long as the player is of that high caliber. And I may be exaggerating when I say you're equating the safety position with a ****ing long snapper, but really not by much. |

I think many on CP have fallen in love with Berry's story, and see him as Superman -- which he may be (in a cancer-beating sense). I just don't see him as that in a football sense. Am I missing something? Do you all remember him making some MAJOR plays in winning games? Like I said, maybe I'm missing something, but I just don't see him as that game-changing type guy. |

IMHO pay him whatever is needed to keep him. He's the anchor of the defense.

Pretty much. You can't spout a philosophy of building through the draft then let your drafted super stars walk on their 2nd contract.

Any other player would have been roasted around here......apparently beating cancer gives you an excuse on the football feild too. KC was terrible without 2 quality starting CBs....they could live without Berry. Drafting DJ's replacement should be priority #1...drafting S.Smiths replacement is #1a after they resign him. Chiefs could get two above average safeties for what EB will cost. In Sutton's scheme CB is more important... |
