Geno Smith Escorted off airplane by police for verbal altercation

Apparently he was upset with their seating policy. Can't you see Brady, Manning or Rodgers doing this?

Geno Smith Allegedly Escorted Off Plane By LAX Cops [UPDATE]
Geno Smith Allegedly Escorted Off Plane By LAX Cops [UPDATE]
SEXPAND
Jets quarterback Geno Smith was apparently escorted off a Virgin America flight at LAX today by police after what a witness called a "verbal altercation."

The photo you see above was sent to us by a reader who witnessed the incident and says the shot came "moments before" Smith was escorted out of the airport by cops. Our tipster wasn't the only person who saw it:

@JimmyTraina I don't have video, but I'm at LAX and just saw a Geno Smith fiasco yelling at Virgin America workers. Escorted by cops LOL

— Mark Rue (@markyOso) January 17, 2014
We're working on getting more details, but it looks like Geno's weekend isn't off to a great start.

Update (7:11 p.m.): Our tipster fills in some details:

We were waiting for our flight at LAX to Vegas and were put on standby on Virgin American just like Geno. We were told to get seat assignment at 2:40. Apparently Geno was not on board with that. My friend walked over to discuss seat assignment and Geno was saying to airline ticket agents, "**** that, this is bullshit." "Why the **** do I have to wait until 2:40." He would not let it go. He continued to curse and be loud for about 5 minutes. Police were called. They talked for a few minutes and then 3 officers escorted him out of the terminal.

I don't think it was a coincidence either.

Reid and Dorsey aren't stupid. They probably had the deal tentatively in place, went to the combine to assess their options, and then decided they definitely preferred Alex Smith.

Chris Mortensen said Geno was playing Angry Birds during their interview.

The Alex Smith trade had already happened before Geno's interviews and before the draft, and I was feeling pretty dejected as a Chiefs fan. I still hoped we'd pull the trigger on Geno at #1, but I stopped giving a shit about him. My biggest prayer at that point was that the Chiefs would at least spare themselves at least SOME shred of dignity and not pick Luke Joeckel.

And again, the story isn't written on the kid just yet. There are numerous examples of players (even QBs) who meet the right coach or the right team down the line and make the positive changes necessary, both emotionally and physically.

Right now it's not looking good, though.
I'm not calling you out specifically. I'm only addressing your post specifically because your rant has been pretty one sided. There are people who annoyingly made up character issues before the draft, and people who annoyingly apologized for him after every red flag. Let's not act like one side was annoying and the other wasn't.

Just because you didn't say there weren't issues, doesn't mean that's how all Geno supporters acted. The Geno ballwashers have been making excuses for the red flags, shouting how great he is after a good game, then disappearing after the bad ones. I liked Geno going into the draft, and CP has made me despise him after the draft.

You might ask people who know more about football than I do who liked Geno Smith last year. DJ's Left Nut, BossChief, Sorter, and several other names come to mind. They'll tell you that when it was all about football, there were some pretty good level-headed debates that took place about Geno.

Then Blackbob would show up...

And sure, people made excuses for Geno. I did that plenty of times. A few times were unwarranted, but there were several other occasions (the close losses to Ok State and Oklahoma) where people were making big deals out of nothing. And you can bet that I also expressed concern about his poor play when it happened. The Texas Tech game and the Pinstripe Bowl are the blackest spots on his 2012 resume. He got no excuses from me after those games.

Even the Jets wouldn't take him until their third pick of the draft, that ought to tell us something. The team that valued him the highest in the draft probably considered the pick a flyer.

As far as turning the reins over to him... well, the Jets are where they are because they do things like that.

Lost the tie breaker for a playoff spot
Second highest qbr in the league over his last 4 games, two of those defenses were Carolina and Cleveland. Those are elite level defenses.
Beat the Patriots and Saints.
Won player of the week honors in defeating the Patriots

Lets not act like the kid can't play in the league...he just needs to get a counselor to help deal with these types of emotional problems.

It makes me think he might have a drug problem...especially after his reaction to when Mooch asked him about the drug of choice at West Virginia.

A lot of people thought his footwork had to get settled down in order to get that rhythm and precision in his throws. That sort of thing.

You also had a lot of chuckleheads that just plain didn't like the dude from Day One. I even remember them refusing to give Geno Smith any credit whatsoever after his mammoth day against Marshall. If you asked what evidence they had to question his character and leadership, they said bullshit like, "He slapped a piece of tarp on the sideline! He has a vacant expression on his face after that interception! He's not sitting with his teammates while they're losing!" That's only when I and many others called people morons. And Black Bob. Definitely Black Bob.

I really don't care what he does or how he performs anymore. I stopped caring so much after the Alex Smith trade, and when it was confirmed that we picked Eric Fisher, I stopped giving a shit about Geno completely. The shit-chucking apes who had the exact same baseless leadership and character criticisms of Cam Newton are probably going to be correct about Geno's career in the NFL, but that doesn't mean they had brilliant football foresight to see this coming. For football fans (and absolutely GMs and coaches) you win some and you lose some when it comes to player predictions. But that doesn't mean one's dislike of the dude that formed your opinion is a valid way to go about predicting the amount of success a player will have in the pros.

After this incident, I gotta think that Geno's got some emotional issues that he seems unable to channel properly, and no doubt that can affect his preparation and play during games.
AKA: I was wrong but damned if I'm willing to admit it...

No shit, I haven't seen this uber talent. He looks amazingly like Tony Banks.

Nice deep ball most of the time, a ton of fumbles and INTs, a little bit of pocket mobility and not much else.

Comparison made because of skillset, not color.

I laughed the other day when I ran across one of his pre-draft scouting reports, and the current pro they compared him to was... Alex Smith.

In reality, Geno can only dream of becoming someone who is as secure with the ball and efficient as Alex Smith.

The fact that Alex Smith being named a pro bowl alternate has filled the real fans with rage, because it reminds them of Cassel tells you all you need to know.
