Considering a vacation to Atlanta

The kiddo may or may not be coming with us.

Just wondering what to make sure to do while we're there. We decided on Atlanta because neither of us has been there, and it is home of the largest aquarium in the US. Other than that, I'm not for sure what it's known for as far as tourist attractions. I'm commencing Google searches, but I'd just thought I'd also see if anyone on here who either lives there or has been there can suggest some things. Thinking July or August.

Just in case we take the kiddo, he will be 16-18 months at the time of the trip. If you list something, please say whether it would be appropriate (or geared towards) children.

Thanks!

I'm sure you've factored in weather and all, but Atlanta in July/August sounds miserable.

Taking a vacation and bringing along an 18 month old makes no sense. There is nothing at all that he will remember about it. About the only thing it would accomplish is to take away some of you and Mr. Luvs vacation time.
Leave him at home and enjoy your alone time while you can. You're going to have less and less and less and less of alone time soon enough.

Aquarium is really cool

Coke museum is interesting. All the soda you can drink at the end from all over the world. They have it broken out by continent.

Braves game. They have a new stadium.

There's a underground mall downtown that I wasn't really all that impressed with but was told it was a "must do"

There's a hotdog place called the Varsity famous for chilidogs.

If you stay downtown be prepared for more people asking for change than you can imagine. I've been there a few times and it's always the same as far as that goes. A lot of "can you spare a .........?" So just be ready.

You may have a rather cranky child.

Atlanta is hot. You think KC is humid? Nah man...ATLANTA is humid. Take a shower in the summer and your are an instant sweaty mess the instant you step outside. It's not especially pleasant there.

It's old, run down, and scary now. It's not cool like it used to be.

I visited the High Museum last year to see a really cool special exhibit. The exhibit is gone now, but the basic museum was very good if you like to see art. It had a lot of modern stuff that was really cool, so it's not just looking at medieval dead jesus paintings.

Here are a few of my favorite things from there.
