Disappointed in McCluster

Bla bla bla, he's a playmaker, he has two touchdowns already, whatever.

He has seven catches for 93 yards. 1/3 of that yardage came on one play. At least two of those are screen passes I believe.

That ****ing sucks.

This guy needs to be a threat as a WIDE RECEIVER. He hasnt made a single play down the field. I'm not even talking 20 yards. How about 10? How about coming off the line, putting your foot in the ground, getting open and giving Cassel a target?

I'm not willing to accept the idea that Cassel is so god awful he makes all our wide receivers look terrible.

McCluster hasn't done shit yet. And he was utter garbage in Indy.

Don't buy any of his ****ing t-shirts.

It is tough for me to understand because I really do believe McCluster is going to be a big contributor not a bust. The real question I can't answer, yet, was he worth an early second round pick? I still believe he will be considered good value in the near future. The main thing that has to improve is his pass blocking.
parody as in that's the exact kind of ridiculous things people say about McCluster, none of which are true...

Why would anyone believe McCluster is going to be a big contributor?

He sucks as a wide receiver.

He is averaging 1 yard per catch coming out of the backfield this year.

He sucks as a running back unless it's a draw play.

He just played a career low 12 snaps.

I can't even compare him to anyone else because it would be an insult to that player.

I'd say that stat alone shows that it's not McCluster's fault. If you have a 1 yard avg the play calling sucks and blocking sucks. You shouldn't be getting hit in the backfield.

I think he could become pretty effective if Cassel keeps throwing like he did the the last 2 1/2 quarters Sunday, and Battle keeps running like he did. He is the perfect compliment to that type of offense. Not so much Capitan Checkdown and Mr. 2.9 a carry.

He hasn't made a single defender miss on a pass reception this year.

Well, you can only activate so many players.

When Baldwin takes someone's gameday roster spot, I bet guys who play 12 snaps and don't play on special teams are at the top of the list to ride the pine.

So does the majority.

Teams that need a QB:

Dolphins
Titans
Broncos
Vikings
Seahawks
Chiefs
Jags
Colts
Bengals
Bills

Teams that wont draft a QB on that list unless its Luck:

Titans
Vikings
Jags
Colts
Bengals
Bills

Teams left:

Broncos
Dolphins
Chiefs
Seahawks

Nick Foles? Ranked, at best, 5th behind Luck/Barkley/Jones/RG3

And given the Chiefs background, you could probably put them on the wont draft a QB other than Luck.

Leaving the Dolphins, Broncos, and Seahawks as pretty solid locks to taking a QB in the first.

McCluster is the Kris Wilson of the Pioli regime. Except that McCluster won't last eight years in this league.
Here was my immediate reaction to the pick as it was announced (before I admittedly tried to rationalize the selection)

http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showp...postcount=3415

Kris Wilson anyone?

is this where it all comes unraveled?

...

The reason I posted that is because when we took Wilson, we desperately needed a WR and none of quality were available, so we took a boom/bust prospect in a pretty productive TE that was on Fitzgeralds team.

In the 2010 draft, we needed a WR and for whatever the reason, we didnt think any of them were any good so we took a boom/bust prospect that could play slot receiver/rb.

The book on Dex is far from being done written, but at this point he doesnt look to be worthy of that high of a pick...time will tell if that ends up being the end result or just the current perception.

FTR Dex has about the same yard from scrimmage totals as Benn and has a few nice returns as well. The difference between the two thus far (in production) is not as much as you present it as.

Id also like to add that I believe that once Baldwin gets on the field, it will open up a lot of the underneath stuff that Dex runs. He shouldnt catch a screen and have 3-4 players in his face because the playcall was so obvious.

You couldn't tell the difference between a good corner and a bad one if your life depended on it.

For a guy that has played a lot of snaps at corner since his first game in the NFL and is only in his second year, all you need to recognize is that you cant list a bunch of instances when he got burned.

Young corners are similarly judged as long snappers....they are doing good if you haven't heard much of them.

Man, I just don't know how to feel about McCluster. I don't think it's fair to label him a bust--I think he does do quite a bit of stuff pre-snap that forces some defensive adjustments and he's on pace to get more than 700 all purpose yards, which doesn't justify the pick, but is far from being on "bust level." I'm interested to see if the Chiefs' improvements in stretching the field will open up the underneath stuff for him, which is where I've always believed he can be the most dangerous. I still believe he has potential to really mature as a receiver.

As for Arenas, I wouldn't take that pick back. I think he's been great. Kind of tough to get down on him for hearing his name mentioned in Indy. He was covering guys like Wayne and Clark all day long, and that's not going to be easy for anyone, especially a nickel guy. The one thing Pioli has done is assemble a phenomenal secondary. I've been very impressed, in particular, with Travis Daniels when he's had to play in Flowers' place.

He is no longer a kick returner and is clearly being phased out of the running game. His contribution to the passing game is even more of a joke than it was last year.

The only thing left for him to do is fumble again and get injured.

FYI, the bulk of McCluster's rushing yards in Week 1 and 2 came in garbage time. His contribution in San Diego was more real. But now we have Battle Jack.

@ is clearly being phased out of the running game.

ARE YOU ****ING KIDDING ME?

Heres a tip:

when we play teams that are weak on the edges, he will get more carries because those types of runs (sweeps, stretches...etc) are his strength...when we play teams that are weak at DT (like Indy was only dressing 2 dts) but speedy ends, he will get less of a workload.

The gameplans are built on matchups.

I could have told you well before the indy game that DMC wouldn't get as many touches as he has in other games.

Its no coincidence that Battle got so many caries in a game when the opposing team was weak up the middle.
