Smartest thing they did was stop shoveling bullshit down the throats of potential customers.
MS: "Its impossible to disable the DRM in the system. You MUST be connected to the internet for the device to function properly." Consumers: *Flips Don Mattrick and MS the double bird* MS: Heh...uh...Hey Guys! Good News!! We've disabled the DRM! Heh! Yeah...we didn't think it was possible....but it really was. So yeah. Its just a patch, so you still need the internet when you fire it up or its still a big plastic brick, and it leaves the option open for us to just switch it back on after we have your money....but yay for the return of disc based games! Right? MS: "The Kinect is not optional. It is always on and is an integral, critical part of the hardware." Consumers: "Yeah, not paying 100 extra dollars for something that barely functions properly, and is probably spying on my household since it's never off. *flips MS the double bird once again.* MS: Oh you guys! Heh. You know how we kid! Surprise! Heh heh. So guess what! A version of the XBOX One is now available without the Kinect! Yes! We didn't think it was possible either! MS: "The XBOX One will not feature backward compatability." Consumers: "K. Ill just take your original suggestion and stick with my 360 then. Enjoy not getting my money!" MS: "Hey guys! You caught us again! Guess what!?! Backward Compatability!! YES! You can play your 360 games on the XB1 now!!" These guys have been so full of shit at literally every turn with this console. I get that its hard to admit that you missed the mark with consumers with nearly every aspect of this console, but to sit there and say the shit that they've said only to backpedal and produce the demanded feature later on is just comical. I own a 360. Ive enjoyed it, and I only purchased it through Sony's colossal screwup with the PS3 launching for a ridiculous 600 dollars. I doubt Ill be getting the XB1 though. Just waaay too much bullshit thusfar to consider committing to MS for another console.

Those screw ups were all Don Matrick and he's no longer with the company. They are moving in the right direction now. |

My favorite Matrick quote was his response regarding people that don't have access to internet, like soldiers abroad. "We have a product just for people in that situation. Its called the Xbox 360." doh

I don't think those even compare to the decisions xbox was making with the One and the way Mattrick was marketing it.

I give them a pass, they were trying to revolutionize the gaming market. Problem is they are forcing it. Kinect mixed with vr/oculus will be the future. It is close now,,
company opening a vr theme park in utah. stuff to do at home in the future. Almost getting close to a holo deck. |

The interviewer dropped the ball there. His immediate response should have been "or...go buy a PS4."
I just want a gaming console. I don't need any of this wave of the future shit. I don't need to control my tv, my internet, and my games all through one device all at the same time with face and voice recognition with an always online requirement. They just tried to do way too much with this thing, and the games, the performance of the games, and overall reception to the console has suffered greatly. Just give me badass games that look awesome and are fun to play, at a fair price. GAMES. Not LICENSES to play games out in the ether that will one day down the road vanish into thin air when there is no longer support for it. Microsoft clearly wants to go all digital at some point. There has to be the question of whether or not you trust Microsoft if youre one of the folks without reliable broadband internet. You already need a day one patch to disable the DRM. So, if you have no internet access at all, then you cant even play the ****ing thing. They certainly have the ability to re-activate that policy down the road if they choose, and if they release another ToS agreement that users have to accept, there will be nothing anyone can do about it once MS has your money. Sony just seems to be in tune with what gamers are looking for. A gaming console that is built to do just that. Play games. Ill be able to buy, sell, rent or buy used Sony games. MS doesn't seem to want to stay on board with that. They certainly are pulling out all the stops to try to drive sales now, but for me its just too late. I was pulling for them to try to impress me and convice me to upgrade, but with some awesome games coming out (Fallout 4, Batman), Im going to be upgrading before tax time, and MS has just simply run out of time to do that.
