Alex Smith Traded to Chiefs

Well, it looks like the deal is done.

https://twitter.com/intent/user?scre...w_p=tweetembed

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can't be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

Alex Smith is a very smart, game manager. He is not going to win many games, but hes not going to lose any. He has a philosophy that a punt, or taking a sack is better than a turnover. He is a great leader. He is not kaep, or aaron rodgers, he is alex smith, he is closer to being a matt hasselbeck type than being elite. Yes, whole lot of sunshine and rainbows. Im sorry im not like you, i do not care about what the select few on this boards think of me, or my opinion of Alex SMith, or me in general. You seem to care far more about that than i do.
Here is what you need to get through your thick skull, we aren't happy with what you claim is Alex Smith's upside.

It's not as if we haven't seen this before. This fanbase has seen YEARS AND YEARS of this kind of QB---the smart "game manager" that thinks that a punt or taking a sack is better than a turnover. The "great leader" type that is not a franchise QB.

All through the 90's we had a great defense paired with exactly this kind of QB (with the possible exception of a broken-down Montana). DeBerg and Steve Bono were prime examples of this kind of QB. We went 13-3 with Bono in 1995. DeBerg had a magical year where he threw 24 TD passes and 4 ints. WE HAVE SEEN THIS MOVIE BEFORE AND KNOW HOW IT ENDS---without a SB trophy.

To us, this seems like yet another administration giving up on getting a franchise guy the minute they walk in the door. So, yes it's partially about history, but it's also about your boy---we've seen him before and we don't see playoff appearances and a full stadium as an acceptable end goal. So what if he's better than Damon Huard or Matt Cassel? He's still not good enough to realistically create a Super Bowl run without a firestorm of serendipity.

cool. I know that being 4-12 and drafting in the top 10 is a much better scenario than 10-6, and at the very least, having a chance in the playoffs.

I mean we all know that only teams that go 12-4, get the first round bye make the super bowl. Thats why in the past 5 years, two number 6 seeds, won the super bowl, and this year, the 4th seed did.

You surely showed me.

Yeah, and what did those teams have in common?

THEY HAD A FRANCHISE QB.

In fact, you could go back to 2005, and point out how Big Ben won his first SB when the Steelers were a 10-6 no. 6 seed if you want to go back to the start of this "hot in the playoffs" recent trend.

Eli, Big Ben, and Joe Flacco (who no one would have called a "franchise" guy before the 2012 playoffs, but went 11-0 TD/INT ratio---reminds me of what Eli did in 2007).

If you want to argue that Alex Smith is a proto-Joe Flacco who has yet to blossom, I might give you more credence (but I'd still not believe you). But, that's not what you think. If you think a "smart, game manager" is going to blow up and lead anyone to the promised land, then you're a guy that chases a two out draw when the other players are already all-in (as in, you don't have any more implied odds to chase so you can't argue value).

Basically, you want to play playoff lotto WITHOUT A FRANCHISE QB---and expect us to dance in the streets in joy at what we know is a losing strategy. Sure, idiots can hit two out draws and win huge hands. That doesn't make them good poker players---or good GM's.

I, however, am not as apoplectic as many are here. If Reid/Dorsey follow their history and keep chasing young QB's until they finally get a franchise guy, then I don't have a huge problem with the Smith deal. More than a bit pricey, but I guess Reid and Dorsey see what happens to GM's and coaches of losing teams.

Which is exactly why that asshat Alex Smith Fan has a red rep, because he knows nothing about Chiefs (or much about ANY level of football) and wants to lecture us.

I can't figure out how he has the ability to lecture considering he's got Alex Smyth's balls in his mouth 24x7.
