Kansas City held hostage by Absentee Ownership

Just my opinion feel free to ignore, but that should be the theme of saveourchiefs.

This city has been held hostage by disconnected, out-of-town ownership and that's the narrative the national (and to some degree local) media have missed. Clark Hunt lives in Texas and David Glass lives in Arkansas. They can't feel your pain or passion. They're tone deaf to the issues undermining their teams. They're riding the NFL and MLB gravy trains. They turn a profit regardless of how much effort they put into their ballclubs.

Kansas City sports fans are tired of being held hostage by Absentee Ownership.

Lamar, in large measure, got a pass in dark times because he had a very affable public persona. He was a naturally likeable person who went out of his way to present and sustain the every-man image. He was damn good at it, too. You got the feeling that Lamar sincerely cared about the team, the community, and the fans.

There was also the fact that he was responsible for bringing the Chiefs to Kansas City ... that buys you a lot of points ... not to mention the early success.

That's why it's so important that Clark carve his own niche and identity for himself and his team ... if, that is, he is serious about fielding a successful, winning franchise.

Keep in mind also that we're talking about an elderly man who's health was getting worse as each Chiefs season did.

Then we're going to berate that elderly man with "win now!" statements and banners?...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

I recognize the anger and frustration but I'm not sure Clark being an absentee owner is the cause of the Chiefs problems. What would have changed if Clark lived in Leawood?

His logical choice failed, and it happens. It's part of business. How you respond to those failures determine the success of an organization.

If he cans Pioli, and there is a replacement at GM, HC and a legitimate QB in town next Sept 1, I'll be a big Clark Hunt fan.

Two really good posts. Lets be real here. Clark is a business man, not a football man. And quite honestly, I don't want a Jerry Jones. **** that cocksuck.

Let me put it another way. Clark, I assume has massive money invested in the stock market. But I bet he doesn't make trades himself. He probably has some sort of broker. It should be the same thing with football. Concurrently, he should objectively review their performance. If his broker is ****ing off or taking too many risks or whatever, he should get the ban hammer. Same with football men. If he makes the team an embarrassment, he should get the ban hammer. We'll see.

Clark Hunt runs the Chiefs like a business. Something that Manning said when he chose the Broncos, its all about the football. I don't think it will ever be all about the football with Hunt. Its why he chose Pioli, so that he could make all the football decisions. Hunt needs to be fired.
