Ironically, What I found interesting in the above link was this:

NFL.com senior analyst Gil Brandt, said on Sirius radio that before the Broncos acquired Packers wide receiver Javon Walker for a second-round pick, the Packers turned down an offer, believed to be lesser, from the Chiefs. The Chiefs on Tuesday would neither confirm nor deny the report.

"Stupider" is considered to be acceptable (it's in the dictionary). It sort of gets in the back door because "stupidest" is considered to be correct, and you can't say one's fine and the other isn't.
