MU's Championship> KU's Championship
MU's signature win over the then #2 team in the country to become No.1 for a week is bigger than KU's National Championship. Yeah...
According to Blair Kerkhoff Link The top 20 college events of the past school year BY BLAIR KERKHOFF | THE KANSAS CITY STAR Kansas had trouble stopping Jeremy Maclin and Missouri in the Border War game on Nov. 24. It was played before the second-largest crowd in Arrowhead Stadium history. Nov. 24, 2007 What happened? The oldest rivalry west of the Mississippi River never had a buildup like this. The undefeated Jayhawks were ranked second. Third-ranked Missouri stood 10-1. The largest viewing audience in the history of ESPN’s “College GameDay” pregame program saw Jayhawks colors on one side of the stage and Mizzou colors on the other. On a chilly evening before the second-largest crowd in stadium history (80,537), the Tigers prevailed 36-28 to win their first North Division championship. Mizzou quarterback Chase Daniel was never better, completing 40 of 49 passes for 361 yards and three touchdowns. What it means Even in the afterglow of a remarkable evening, the schools may not press forward with the series in Kansas City beyond the 2008 game. Traffic, parking and security problems soured many, especially Kansas fans who wondered if their team surrendered a perfect season by surrendering the home field. On the plus side, both teams dropped $1.3 million into their athletic coffers, and the return should be similar for this year’s game. 2 NCAA championship for Jayhawks April 7, 2008 What happened? The impossible, that’s what. How it happened was as exhilarating as that it happened. Trailing Memphis 60-51 with 2 minutes, 12 seconds remaining, the Jayhawks staged a rally for the ages — punctuated by Mario Chalmers’ three-pointer with two seconds remaining in regulation — and defeated the Tigers in overtime. As Bill Self continues to say, “Just about everything that could go right for us in the last two minutes did.” What it means Everything to the Jayhawks. The school that hired James Naismith in 1898 knows a little about the sport and stands with the nation’s greatest programs. In this exclusive club, only six have won at least three championships: UCLA, Kentucky, Indiana, North Carolina, Duke and Kansas. With the leverage of a ring, Self got a new contract and the promise of improved facilities, including a basketball practice arena. 3 Kansas wins Orange Bowl Jan. 3, 2008 What happened? Virginia Tech wins with defense, special teams and toughness. Kansas topped the Hokies in all three categories in a 24-21 triumph to win its first major bowl game. All-America cornerback Aqib Talib got things started with an interception return for a touchdown, and it just kept getting better from there for coach Mark Mangino’s squad. What it means The 2007 regular season wasn’t a fluke. Sure, the Jayhawks played cupcakes in September and avoided the more difficult South teams. But Kansas blew out nearly every team it faced, then defeated the ACC champion in a historical bowl setting. 4 Mizzou wins Cotton Bowl Jan. 1, 2008 What happened? Blowout city. The Razorbacks haughtily played their SEC card, and Mizzou trumped it with a 38-7 triumph that stands with the program’s greatest bowl moments. The best running back on the field wasn’t Heisman runner-up Darren McFadden but Missouri’s Tony Temple, who set Cotton Bowl records with 281 rushing yards and four touchdowns. What it means The exclamation point of a record-setting season gives Missouri a head of steam heading into the fall. The Tigers not only are preseason favorites to repeat as North champions but to win their first Big 12 championship. 5 Michael Beasley dominates in purple 2007-08 What happened? Kansas State basketball came alive when Beasley followed his coaching connection, Dalonte Hill, to Kansas State and helped send the Wildcats to their first NCAA Tournament in a dozen years. Beasley turned in one of the greatest freshman seasons of all-time, averaging a Big 12-record 26.2 points and grabbing 12.4 rebounds. He became the Wildcats’ first Big 12 player of the year and the program’s first consensus All-American since Bob Boozer. |

On an entirely different subject, on the way home from work tonight, a dude on the radio was talking about Mizzou leaving the Big 12 for the Big 10 (which would then have 12, how confusing) and Arkansas leaving the SEC to take their spot.

We went to a better bowl, beat a better opponent and you were ranked higher than us because you beat us. REMATCH NEXT YEAR BITCHES!!!
It's funny though how we accomplished more in one year than you guys have after being a primarily "football school" for as long as we can remember lol. Oh, and one more thing... KU NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!!!! WHERE'S YOURS?!

Let me know when 3/4 of NCAA athletes can solve that. I'm sure Mizzou's basketball team will be too busy polishing up their brass knuckles and practicing the classic beer-bottle over the back of the head move in preperation for their next bar outings...err season.

Not MU's fault, but they probably didn't beat down an Arkansas team in their finest hour. |

It says a lot about how crappy your school's sports history is, when a regular season victory over your top rival is considered by your home-town rag to rate higher than another teams' winning of a National Championship.
Congrats on the Tigger version of a National Championship, Mizzou. The Jayhawk fans will remain quite ecstatic about winning a 5th National title, however. Try it sometime if you can, you'll see how significant the difference really is. |
