Actress Ellen Page publicly came out as gay Friday evening, while giving a speech at Time to THRIVE, a national LGBTQ youth conference held in Las Vegas.

"I'm here today because I am gay," Page told the assembled crowd, which responded with a standing ovation and a long chorus of cheers.

"Whoo!" said Page, before continuing:

"And because maybe I can make a difference. To help others have an easier and more hopeful time. Regardless, for me, I feel a personal obligation and a social responsibility.

I also do it selfishly because I'm tired of hiding and I'm tired of lying by omission. I suffered for years because I was scared to be out. My spirit suffered, my mental health suffered, and my relationships suffered. And I'm standing here today with all of you on the other side of that pain."
Page is most famous for becoming pregnant by her awkward classmate Michael Cera, and for invading the dreams of a stranger alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, neither of which happened in real life, because she is an actress.

After her speech, the Human Rights Campaign, which organized the conference, congratulated Page on the front page of its website for "her brave decision to live openly and authentically."

I know this has to have been mentioned, since this thread is decades old. The first I ever heard of Ellen Page was in 2005 I rented 'Hard Candy' at Blockbuster. Someone or some place I heard it was good. It was good alright, good and freaky. I don't think I could watch again. Kind of reminded me of the old movie from the 70's with Diane Keaton, Looking for Mr. Goodbar, that movie is so freaky they don't ever show it anywhere. Richard Gere was the weirdo in that film, if you can believe that.

The whole transgender thing is super weird and almost certainly some sort of mental illness.

However, if it makes people that transition happy then I support it. I just think it's kind of dumb how celebrated it is.

If the writers knew that she was going to come out as transgender, it's more than likely included in Season 3's story arc created for this season.

If not, it might be a last minute addition, which would possibly muck up the narrative by forcing her personal story into the overall story arc.

Saw this movie as well. It was good, and one time was enough. Reminds me a lot of The Woodsman with Kevin Bacon. Decent movie, but seeing it once was enough.
