2015

Well, the season's over and the Chiefs will be picking somewhere in the top 16 and will have at least three compensation picks.

Vested vets who probably won't be on the roster next season and will be released: Tamba Hali, Anthony Fasano, Mike DeVito and Chase Daniel.

Vets who are possibly justifiable in being released to free up cap space: Dwayne Bowe, Sean Smith, Derrick Johnson and Dustin Colquitt.

2015 free agents: Rodney Hudson, Allen Bailey, Anthony Sherman, Justin Houston and Thomas Gafford.

2016 free agents: Eric Berry, Dontari Poe.

Concerning the guys who are probably gone, it's fair to say that Daniel and Hali's replacements are already one the team with Aaron Murray/Tyler Bray and Dee Ford respectively. Of the possibly released list, Sean Smith's replacement in Phil Gaines is already on the roster. Of the '15 free agents, Rodney Hudson will likely be supplanted by Eric Kush assuming he doesn't re-sign.

Assuming all of the aforementioned, the Chiefs will *probably* be looking for an OLB (or transition to a 4-3 and find a DE), TE and DE (or 4-3 DT) as well as possibly looking for a WR and ILB with their picks in the first three rounds of next Spring's draft and will be looking for C, DE and CB help in the later rounds.

Things get hairy if you assume Houston walks next Winter and there's no effort to re-sign both Berry or Poe. Given Dorsey's track record, Houston is as good as gone and the weaker performer in '14 between Poe and Berry walks as well. For sake of example, that will be Poe.

Therefore, the holes most seemingly pressing in the '15 draft will be:
ROLB (Hali's role)
LOLB (Houston's role)
NT
WR
ILB
DE

and depth drafting needed at TE, CB and C.

That's nine spots with what will likely be at least 10 draft picks.

Draftmen, who (or what positions) will be the top five guys selected by Dorsey next April(hopefully) and who are the top five guys *YOU* would take assuming KC is picking anywhere in the top 16.

So between Houston, Poe, and Berry we are going to let 2 of them walk? We are going to let 2 of our only young proven players walk? Just . Dorsey hasn't been here even close to long enough to have a track record that you can make predictions on. If you really believe we are just going to let Houston and Poe/Berry walk then you are one ignorant mother ****er.

KC had a passable LT in Branden Albert. He walks after they draft Fisher. KC has two very good outside linebackers. One of those guys will be gone because they drafted Dee Ford.

Dorsey clearly goes into the draft looking for replacements for guys who are within two years of hitting free agency. It's not hard to see the pattern.

Know what really sucks even more about the Dee Ford pick, other than the fact that he hasn't been any good?

The 2015 draft is full of OLB prospects who are probably going to be better players than Ford is.

Albert and Hali are in the 30 or older range and will be on the decline within 4 years or so. The same cannot be said for Houston, Poe, and Berry. No comparison at all.

By your logic we will never pay premium money to young talented players beyond their rookie contract. We will never keep players beyond 4 or 5 seasons by your logic.

No general manager is that ignorant or he wouldn't have a job.

The average GM pays to keep the young talent that he has.

A great GM lets cap crippling vets go and is always replacing that talent through the draft with no drop in production and gets excellent players for mere pennies.

Dorsey seems to be trying to accomplish the latter but his inability to draft players who can provide an immediate impact has hurt him early on.

I bet that if Alex steps it up and plays well for the majority of the rest of this year and we end up with a top 2 pick still due to defensive injuries, etc, Dorsey is going to trade away that pick for multiple first round picks and pass on taking Mariota or Winston.

What exactly has Dorsey done to make you believe he even knows that he can trade picks?

Exactly. He knows how to construct a board, but can not improvise.

If we're a top 2 pick I'm confident we won't take a QB. Maybe Clark's son will someday, but clearly this franchise doesn't hold the same value on QB's that others do.

Winston sucks. He's gonna be a shit pro QB. Mariota will be a stud I think.

And why would Dorsey draft a 1st QB after giving Alex Smith that deal?

Whether people like it or not (me being one of them) A.Smith will most likely play his entire contract here in KC. Why? Because the Chiefs won't draft a QB in rd 1, and there are 25 yrs worth of drafts to back that up.
