Well, here's his record with the Jets... I guess it's the two playoff wins that make Carl's sports' woody go crazy.

It would do the same for you if you hadn't won a playoff game in 12 years.

Possibly, I just don't see what they like in Edwards. I don't see him coming in without bringing his own guys... which means KC is likely overhauling the coaching staff. What impact will that have on the older vets that may be forced into doing things differently?

I dunno, if I were a KC fan... this would concern me. Does anyone think he'll come in and not disrupt the coaching staff?

It is somewhat concerning.

However, I'm HOPING Herm is bright enough to see the offense for what it is. In doing so, he'll either hire enough of the current offensive staff or bring in new folks familiar with the system (Norv Turner?) to maintain continuity. If he fails to do so, I think we can pretty much kiss guys like Roaf and Shields "bye-bye".

Coaching changes on the Defensive side of the ball are less worrysome, as Giunta and the other stooges have a proven track record of stupidity and ineffectiveness. If Herm wants to bring in his own guys over there, I'm good with that.

Did you read the interview on kcchiefs.com?
I take this as maybe Mr.Clark Hunt wanting to go in a diffrent direction.

Q: Is it also your thinking that this would be the last head coach that you hire?
PETERSON: “I would think so. When Lamar and Clark Hunt asked me last year to re-up for another four years starting this February I said this will be the last ride for me. I have been here a long time and love it and I have the best ownership in the National Football League and I think even outside the NFL. But, yes I certainly would like to think that this next head football coach is going to be here and be here longer than this guy (Peterson).”

I would rather have Jeff Fisher above all, but Herm and AS is a toss up to me.

Anyone who thinks that Al would be a perfect HC is kidding themselves.
If Herm and Al are toss ups, Herm would be no better than Al.

Well, we already have Al and it doesn't cost us anything.

Good post. I agree that Herm had better have the common sense to retain our system (either by promoting Shea or Solari, or bringing in Turner). When Saunders leaves, hopefully we'll have the ability to retain somebody (or maybe multiple components) from the current staff, and keep the system intact. Otherwise, as you said, everybody considering retirement, likely will retire. Maybe foolishly, I assume CP will see to it that Herm keeps the O ticking. I'd be happy enough if we kept Gunther, and he had his choice of assistants. Gun didn't do a great job this year given the huge upgrade in talent, but at least the team moved in the right direction. Run D was excellent outside of the Den/NYG road games. Bringing in another scheme might only set us back yet again.

I am resigned to the fact that Herm will be our next HC. The only way this would be tolerable would be if:
1. we don't give up draft picks
2. we keep our offensive scheme, and coached by proven (Turner) or capable (Solari? Shea?) individuals
3. we cut the chaff (Giunta et al) from our D coaching staff

I agree.

I just don't understand where the anti-Herm sentiment is coming from.

From what I've read over the past 3+ days, the sentiment isn't, "We don't want Herm, because Al is free." but rather, "We don't want Herm because he sucks."

Maybe I've missed something in that regard.......

Most of the anti herm sentiment comes from a perspective of 'we dont want him because herm is more of the same'

Because Carl doesn't like Al. That's the only reason.

Have I mentioned that my first choice is Jeff Fisher?

I dont think Saunders would as bad as Herm. Give Al a 3 year deal. From what ive read AL is much more the hardass who probably wouldnt be afraid to stand up to Mr. Peterson.
Where as Edwards would just lay at the feet of Mr. Peterson like the good dog he is supposed to be.

Mr. Peterson has turned into Mr. Al Davis.

But so would the hiring of Al Saunders, who many in the "anti-Herm" camp seem to be touting as the answer (not saying that you are).

The reason I'm holding on to a pipe dream like Fisher, is that I believe he could push the team to the next level without gutting the team, going through a learning curve etc. (which is what most college coaches would go through).

Mr. Adams loves Coach Fisher noway he leaves.

Keeping the offensive system intact concerns me, as well. However, I don't see any reason why they would change it. This is a playoff caliber team already. It's not time to rebuild. If they changed the system, I'm not even sure if Trent Green would want to stick around. And if Trent Green is gone, we aren't gonna be very good. My guess is that we stick with the current system no matter who is the head coach.
