Alex Smith Traded to Chiefs

Well, it looks like the deal is done.

https://twitter.com/intent/user?scre...w_p=tweetembed

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can't be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

Supposedly it's a 2nd and a third rounder next year that becomes a 2nd if Alex is not shitty.

You guys have a great running game. If you can use some draft picks on that D of yours, you just might be able to challenge a wild card spot.

Look at the Niners offense. It's built for the ground game. Alex handed the ball off and limited his mistakes when he did throw it. But we had the defense to be able to play that type of game. I don't know if Reid is going to copy the 49ers script...but it might be a good starting point for him.

The Oakland Raiders jumped into the Alex Smith sweepstakes and raised the asking price for the former number 1 overall pick. The Chiefs were all set to offer a third round choice until Oakland stepped in forcing KC to offer the second round draft choice.
I really hope this isn't true.

The Raiders were offering pick #66 and the Chiefs counter offer wasn't pick #63, but their 2nd rounder instead?

Wow Darren Sharper just said we should re sign B Albert and take joeckel.

While Heath Evans just said that getting Alex Smith we might be able to take the reigns from the broncos.

According to TBG's source....it's more about what San Fran is giving back to us in the way of picks.

Clearly the guys making the decisions for you guys know (or at least think they know) what they are doing.

Trust me, us 49er fans so many times questioned the moves Harbaugh has made. But at some point you just have to trust those decisions. Lucky for us, each one of those decisions as worked out for us. Give your new regime a chance.

I can tell by reading this entire thread that many of you are extremely upset. Truth is, I don't blame you one bit. Alex has been a thorn in the side of Niner fans for years now. He doesn't completely suck, but seems to find a way to screw up at the wrong times.

The past year and a half he has shown nothing but dedication and determination to getting better and keeping his job. The concussion was all it took for JH to pull him. We haven't looked back.

Alex will play fine, but he's definately limited in what he can do. He can NOT throw the ball downfield with any accuracy. He can NOT get through his progressions quickly enough and winds up checking the ball down way too often. His third down percentage and yards/attempt are awful. He will make very inaccurate throws at crucial times and he tends to miss the rbs on his checkdowns.

Alex has definatly gotten better, but I'm glad he's not on the Niners anymore. He was a source of SO MANY message board fights/bans that it became a joke to see when the Alex threads would end.

I see more of the same next year for you guys. I think he will play well enough that he will give you some hope, then just when you start to believe in him, he will stumble. I think this MB will be full of threads arguing whether Alex was the reason you lost, if it was Alex's fault the reciever didn't make the catch, if it was Alex's fault that you can't convert on crucial third-downs.....etc.

It was a never ending issue at our MB. The board was split down the middle about Alex. Half of us couldn't wait to get rid of him, and the other half always defended him. Good luck with that.

Any real football fans here will soon realize that Alex is a stop-gap for your team while Andy finds a full-time replacement. IMO, you are right to question giving up so much for such a mediocre QB. I know many people are saying he is a GREAT player and is an upgrade for you, but personally I like the Chiefs and don't envy you during the upcoming season.

Maybe I'm completely wrong, but I don't think I will be. This message board will implode with the Pro-Alex vs. Anti-Alex threads. You will find many people willing to throw the entire team under the bus to defend him. He is a charismatic, likable guy. He tends to get a LOT of sympathy and support from the most unusual places. It's just too bad he's not a very reliable QB.

Best of luck this year, but I am not surprised so many of you are upset. You should be upset. We got a great deal for a guy we couldn't give away.

I thank the lucky stars that we hired JH. He knows what Alex can do, which is why he's tried so hard to get Kap ready.

I'm not gloating, I'm just relieved.
Go back and read the archives of this place.

We just did this from 2009-2013. We just ****ing did this. Now we get to do it again.

If Reid and PackerMan watched the tape of every play last year and think Alex Smith is the answer, I'm not sure if they knew what the question was

But I've also read that it's a swap of seconds this year and a conditional pick next year, which makes it far more palatable.

In addition to that, ProFootballTalk is reporting that the deal isn't done until it's done, meaning that either side can back out before March 12th.

So, I'm just doing my best not to overreact because the parameters of this deal could be far different than what's being reported.

Let me give you a four year tour of this place:

February, 2009: Don't question Pioli, he obviously knows Cassel is his guy. Besides the guy was the Executive of the Decade.
April 2009: Don't question Pioli, he obviously knows Jackson is his Seymour. Besides the guy was the Executive of the Decade.

Repeat about 2000 bad decisions for the next four years until the worst team in the NFL results.

We're done placing blind faith in people who have done nothing to demonstrate that they should be given it. Show us you have earned our faith and we'll give it.
