Wow, I just went to his imdb page and he has over 500 listings for films he has scored.
I see he did The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly and Once Upon a Time in the West. Most excellent.

I've never liked his music. It sounds like a cat that has been caught in the washing machine.

For example, listen to the score from Mission to Mars.

My favorite music from the movies comes from him. The operatic sense found in most of his music is so Italian, so much an ode to those in the past, like Cavalleria Rusticana's 'Intermezzo', and they are just so beautiful. And then in contrast, are those gritty, in the streets Little Italy sounds (listen to 'Al Capone' and 'Cockeye's Theme') they perfect the gangster film.

One of the top greatest music I've heard comes from Once Upon a Time in America - mostly in the haunting 'Deborah's Theme'. I don't think a week goes by when I don't listen to it. It's right there along with 'Intermezzo', in my opinion, and because of the connection with one of my favorite films, probably pulls it ahead.

Days of Heaven is a film with very popular music, as it should be. Whereas you may not have seen the film, you've probably heard the music. Kind of like some of Nino Rota's scores with Fellini.

His work in Leone's spaghetti westerns are staples to film history. In particular, the heartpounding 'Ecstasy of Gold'.

It was actually The Untouchables that first got me into Morricone.
While it's no longer my favorite, there really is some great triumphal music in there.

Him and Leone are two of my favorite partners in film. DeNiro/Scorsese, Rota/Fellini, and Leone/Morricone. If I were at the Oscars, I'd be the first to stand up, and the last to sit down. His music has really enriched and filled my life to a great extent.
