Movies

Yeah, so I saw a lot of movies this weekend.

Elizabeth: The Golden Age - Mediocre, at best. Slow and dragged on. Shorten it to 2 hours and it's golden. It's not, so it fails.

Michael Clayton - Amazing. Everything about it is awesome. However, it's VERY complex and mind bending. You have to think, so be prepared. I still feel like I'm missing key details of exactly what happened. Gotta see it again.

Across the Universe - Perfect is one word that comes to mind. It just works. And, contrary to many people I bet, the movie is best viewed sober. Trust me.

Nope and I've heard this mentioned before when I brought up my dislike of the film in front of other groups of douche bags.

I can respect the ground breaking elements and the artistry and still not like the film. In order to do so I would have to re-watch it and pay attention to the details. Since I didn't like it I'd be hard pressed to bother sitting through it again so the current opinion will have to stand.

I'm not saying it to be dismissive. I'm saying it because it would be hard for someone to appreciate elements of that film without knowledge of cinematic techniques, just like I'm not going to understand many of the idioms in Ireland if I go there for a vacation.

I know and I was just joking around. I'm not the type to notice this kind of thing in most films especially one from that era.

The only recent revelation I had was watching the latest Star Trek movie and thinking "I really like how they shot this".

You're right. I worked for six years as a film reviewer, forming my opinion from what other say well before they said it - clearly I don't know how to form my own opinion.

The point of mentioning RT was that CLEARLY at 56 percent there's a ton of other folks out there that think it's not worth it. So to call it "best film of the 90s" is utterly ridiculous.

Watched Baby Mama and Sunshine Cleaning last night.

I really thought Sunshine Cleaning was going to be funnier. But I liked it more than I think I thought I would.

Ok, my apologies. I suppose it's just that I have a problem with a lot of people basing their opinion of a movie off of the review of others. I would rather form my own opinion.

Saw the second one also, can't wait for the third.

I don't mind them making an English language version, but the Swedish Lisbeth will be very hard to match. I think they have committed to shooting in Sweden, though, so that's good. Some of the most important parts of her and Mikael's characters are defined by their previous interaction with the Swedish state, and I don't think it would be easy to set it in the US in particular.

Are they just going to make it set in Sweden, but everyone will speak English?

That's what Fincher said when they announced Daniel Craig was cast as Blomkvist. Also said they'd make Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, see how it did, then decide on the other two, so it's possible there will be only one, not three.

Interesting. I hadn't heard the official announcement about Daniel Craig. Have they cast the female lead yet?

The Craig announcement was in the Monday Hollywood Reporter. No news of Lisbeth casting yet. The other stuff (Sweden location and no confirmed sequels) was from Fincher to reporters at Comic-Con.
