Bengals vs. Dolphins thread

So...am I missing something, or did we really get all the way to halftime without a game thread?

The Redskins are NOT a good football team right now.

Got some good players, but they're not playing well as a team and they're finding ways to defeat themselves (poor execution, turnovers, etc.) as much as other teams are beating them.

They're probably a 5-6 win team at best unless they get it turned around in a hurry.

The Skins got sloppy and took their foot off the gas. They should have kept feeding Morris and Helu the rock.

Every team ultimately starts getting conservative when they get a decent lead. That is the absolute last thing you can do to Peyton. He's going to pick you apart, you might as well hit him a couple times in the process.

The Redskins should've had 300 yards rushing if they would've kept the peddle to the metal.

They did until the redskins literally switched up their game plan. Morris had something like 60 yards in the first half and he touched the ball like 5 times the entire second half. They also shut manning down playing man to man and suddenly stopped and got picked apart playing zone. There's a reason they had a 2 TD lead over them. And there's a reason they lost that lead. They stopped doing everything that got them that lead.

I think we all really hope they're the 2013 version of the career day defense. Because that's what we need them to be.

I just don't see it, though. They're stout against the run and while they can struggle against the pass, they also face more attempts than any team in the AFC. I don't think they're terrible. They had a terrible game at Dallas and gave up a lot of points to the Colts in Indy. But what have they been giving up at home this season, 21 or 22 a game?

The reality is that there's really no reason to compare them to us. Because they don't need to be our defense. They just need to be middle of the pack.

Although if you want to talk about them in comparison to KC, I think they're almost like the negative image of us. Although I think at this point their defense is better as a defense in a general sense than our offense is as an offense. If you follow what I'm saying...

Again, Denver has only played 2 good teams all year (and one of them, Dallas, is arguable there). They look better (and probably are better) than the Chiefs because of their offensive dominance, but it's way too early to crown them. Their first tough stretch of their schedule is coming up (@SD, vs. KC, @NE, @KC) just like ours.

The problem with that argument is that it cuts both ways.

Of course. But nobody who actually watches the Chiefs on a weekly basis would say they are flawless. They obviously have huge glaring ones (see the QB).

The point, though, is Denver isn't flawless either. They're not some unbeatable dynamo of a football team.

The Broncos look good because their offense is literally one of the best in history, there's no denying it, and they put so much pressure on opposing offenses that they basically trip over themselves trying to match Denver's production.

That's why you see these shit teams playing tight games with them until half when their issues just come up front and center. It's also why you see teams like the Colts, actual good teams, able to pull out a W.

It's just my opinion, but it seems logical. You get a two TD lead over a team like Jacksonville, Philly or NYG and just let them beat themselves.

Yeah I don't think anyone here thinks the Chiefs are a juggernaut like they do the Broncos. But teams that are bottom 5/6 in the league in points usually choke at some point. Everyone thought this same thing a couple years ago when the Packers/Saints were tearing up the record books. It was guaranteed to be a showdown for the ages... and neither one of them even made the NFC championship game. The Saints lost a shootout to Alex Smith.

Maybe the Broncos defense will improve. But maybe the Chiefs offense will improve too. Who knows.

Our offense has faced much better defenses than Denver this year, and while our point totals haven't been anything to write home about, is there any doubt that we can put 24 or 27 on Denver?

We play a style of defense that is the best thing you can hope for in stopping Manning and the Donks. The Colts had the right idea, but sustained some crucial injuries to their secondary as the game went along.

I don't anticipate losing our #1 and #2 CBs for entire portions of the game. And besides that, we have the superior defensive line and linebackers.

I'm not guaranteeing anything, but people are pretty much resigned to the fact that we're going to let Denver put up more than 30. I don't think that happens. There's a very good chance we hold them to under 30, and I even think we can put them in the low 20s.

I don't think that anybody has said that they are. The question was just how they compare to the rest of the AFC. I'm not sure who's been more impressive than the donkeys have to this point. I think the only team in the conference that could even be in that discussion right now is us.

Some people (not including me) were saying the Bengals before tonight's game, but now they have 3 losses...

The Patriots have 2, and haven't looked all that impressive at any point this year.

The Colts have 2 losses, but did beat the Broncos, so they might fit. But I think that was one of those weird special circumstances. Neutral field or in Denver, and not "HIS return" and I think it probably goes another way.

And that's it. In the entire AFC. In fact, aside from the Chargers, that's all the teams in the conference with winning records.

Now I'm sure I suffer the same kind of myopia that fans always have for their home teams, but to me, the only impressive thing about the Chiefs right now is the fact that they've managed to survive to 8-0 despite being so...unimpressive. They boast one of the worst offenses in the NFL, and the defense, while still really good, is not what it was during the first month (and it was never going to be...). I think neutral field or in Denver, and the Broncos beat us. Maybe handily. I think at Arrowhead, we have a chance.

I think for us, in a head-to-head sense, denver's defensive struggles don't really matter, because our offense has proven through 8 games that they can't execute consistently against anyone, and as much as I'd like to hope things come together during the second half, based on what I've seen so far I'd say that's not likely to change against the Broncos.

So for me, that means Denver is the better team. And I'm not sure how close it really is. Can't wait to see though.

I think they probably put up 28-35 in Denver in a game we lose.

Then I think we hold them to 21-28 in KC in a game we win.

I'm not resigned to that. While a 30-point game is possible, I think we can hold them somewhere in the 24-27 range (at Arrowhead). Maybe better than that if things really start rolling and the game snowballs away from them.

I don't however, have any confidence that the Chiefs offense can score enough to beat that.

It's been a bit since we got a defensive score. That seems like it would be a good time to get back to that. Although with [insert random name here] starting at Buffalo this weekend, I have a feeling we might get some defensive points on the board.
