The 7 Deadly sins of Andy Reid (from eagles message board)

I was trolling around in some eagles message boards last night and I found this from November of 2006. They had been calling for Reids head for a long time. Although I LOVE this hire, here are some "flaws" that eagles fans saw years ago from Reid

The 7 Deadly sins of Andy Reid

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-Greed/Avarice:
Andy Reid only wants the big play, he has no patience to grind out drives. Running plays are part of a balanced offense.

-Laziness/Sloth:
He is unable to get the team to play with passion. They fail to do the fundamentals, the most basic yet critical points of playing football. The short practices he holds means he's not drilling them on doing the simple things. He relies too much on the team being self-motivated to be ready for games, but they don't, and his failure to prepare them is the issue.

-Pride/Hubris:
He is too stubborn to make changes. Admitting responsibility or pointing out mistakes or deficiencies means little when no changes are actually implemented.

-Lust:
Reid desperately wanted a high flying offense. He convinced his QB to stay in the pocket rather than scramble. He neither invested in a running game nor executed any semblence of a running game.

-Envy:
Reid was envious of warm weather teama and teams in domes that take advantage of the controlled weather. The Eagles have turned into a caricature of such a team: one that emphasizes the pass too much. Consider their early season record the past two years is 8-4 (4-2 each season) but horrible once the weather turns cold. It used to be Reid's record in November and December was good but that was when the team had a running game and a quality defense.

-Wrath:
Reid has lashed out against his critics and the journalists who challenge him, but not enough on his players.

-Gluttony:
Others would focus on the obvious. Coaching-wise, he's riding by on too much credit for beating too many bad teams in past seasons. This team used to be able to beat teams with poor QBs, now they can only beat over the hill QBs but not the young&inexperienced ones. When your defense can't stop the run, it doesn't matter what kind of confusing blitz packages you can throw at the QB.

This team has now lost many winnable home games in more and more embarrassing ways. It would be inconceivable that the team wins against the Colts, I'm thinking a redux of the Seattle MNF game from last year. Get the young players some experience, see what Justice and Jean-Gilles can do. See if Moats has any trade value.

I expect to see everything you said below.

However, I am excited about him bringing in a 4-3 Under if true, which will hopefully solve the problem of not having a good scheme since Jim Johnson. I am hoping that coupling Reid with Dorsey/Heckert will make him less likely to want to dig his hands all over the personnel. And that especially is true for the QB, because I trust his ability to coach QBs, but am not a big fan of the ones he's picked so far. I also feel like the Eagles play great, technically sound football. I've always been impressed by how they tackle with discipline and swarm the ball.

But I'm not ruling out that maybe his defense will be a mess and he'll have his hands in some bad personnel decisions. And I recognize that his team has to be talented enough to overcome his questionable game management.

1) He is smarter than everyone else. Yes, he believes this. One of the many examples is when he made our OL coach (who was a pretty damn good one) into our new Def. coordinator...he also did this during the lockout with no time to practice. He thinks "his way" is the only way.

2) He's stone cold to the media & fans. Gives you nothing during his press conferences but the same old one-liners....I hope you keep my post and come back to it because you will hear these one-liners a lot this year (and we had to put up w/this for 14)...some of them are:
"Times yours" -- he says this to the media at the beginning of a press conference after he sites the injury report --
"I gotta do a better job"
"Gotta put my players in a position to succeed"
"We're fine there"
"It all starts with me"
and many more...

3) His time management is horrendous. Early timeouts on a weekly basis. One of the biggest reasons we lost the Super Bowl in 2004...no timeouts.

4) He's a good weekly game-planner but a terrible in-game adjuster. Just can't adjust and is very stubborn when it comes to running the football (See #1)

5) Drafting is all that good. Look closely at all of Andy Reid's drafts since 98. See many Pro Bowlers in there? McNabb? Westbrook? McCoy? Other than that, who else is there?

That's just some of the things you will find out about Andy Reid. Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike the guy as a person...and I bet you are thinking "You've had it good for the last 14 years..nine playoff appearances, etc" but let me ask you this: How many Super Bowls have we won in those years? As many as Kansas City.

Eagles and Chiefs fans are some of the smartest and dedicated fanbases in the NFL. We both want to win and love our teams through thick and thin. I hope Andy can turn your team around and I think he will...but I know you guys wouldn't be content with 8-8 every year.

Was that even an article, or just a post by a guy?

EDIT: Well, I guess I should ask the OP that question.

I blame McNabb for the SB clock management as much as Reid. Lolligagging down the field when you're down 10 with six minutes to play with no urgency is unacceptable. Moreover, McNabb threw up on Jacksonville's field three times if memory serves: Once during his Syracuse bowl game appearance, once in the Super Bowl, and once in a later regular season game. I blame the QB for not being a winner. T.O. was right about him.
Hey, stop talking about us like we're not it the room!

Idk how many times I have to tell you people. It's not that Ried won't run with Charles. Rieds problem with the running game is that he will pass in situations where a run is 99% more effective. Like 3rd and 3 etc. It was one of the most frustrating things to watch when shady is tearing up a defense averaging 5yrds a carry and then Ried just stops running for 3 drives and doesn't run on multiple 3 and shorts.

You look at Hollywood actresses whose boyfriends/husbands break up with them, and you think, "My God, why?!? She's ridiculously hot, she's rich, she's famous!" The "why" is because of this simple rule: no matter how attractive a chick is, someone is tired of ****ing her. The same "grass is greener" mentality applies to coaches. Andy Reid may not be a gourmet meal, but he's a solid t-bone steak and potatoes, and Chiefs fans have been eating McDonald's day-old burgers that were left on the counter overnight. It's a step up.
