what do your kids do with their halloween loot

or do you limit their intake so you can pick through
it and take what you want

We limit their intake.

Initially, they dump their candy on the floor, and my wife and I laugh as we watch their eyes get to the size of saucers. Then we let them eat a little bit of it, and dish out the rest of it a little at a time over the next month. They eventually forget about it and we throw a bunch of it away.

When I was a kid the queenmum would annoy me by taking all of it into her work the next working day. I didn't get to pick out my favs.

My brother and I would dump each of ours out and then become "Candy GM's" trying to work trades out to get our favorite candy from each other. We'd even trade candy we'd never tried before as a conditional pick based on how it ended up tasting. Future Halloween trades were allowed.

Sounds like my sister and younger brother. She would hoard her candy and my brother would eat all of his the first couple of days. Then she would sell off pieces of her candy to him over time with payment being doing her chores, favors, etc.

As for my kids, we ration it out. They get all of their candy but not all at once. They get a piece or two with their lunch and maybe a piece after dinner, things like that.
