Carl failed here. Completely. Why is his opinion on how we should go about or are going about things valued?

Do Lions reporters call Matt Millen for his take every time they make a hire?

It was time to leave, and the Chiefs didnt get to the superbowl, but we did win 2nd most games in the NFL during the decade of the 90's and the Loyalty and excitement of the fanbase was second to none when he was here. I think he deserves a little more credit than that.

0 playoff wins his last 15 yrs here.

His first few yrs here were a good start that he failed to build on and reach the ultimate goal. And from '98 on.....well frankly his regime sucked hind teet.

Add to that he's an arrogant douchebag which only works if you win more.

Carl gave us some of the best memories in Chiefs history. He DID have success, just like Reid in Philly. Time catches them all...

That speaks to our unfortunate history more than it does his success.

Not at all like Reid. Only 3 playoff wins vs 10. Plus, no SB.

Carl didnt fail here. He did just the opposite

He and Marty rebuilt this franchise/fan base.

He made us relevant in the NFL, something we havent been since he left.

I guess it depends what your goals are

I don't consider him a failure b/c we didn't win a Super Bowl in and of itself. From '98 on we were mostly mediocre and went 15 years w/o a playoff win under his watch. W/O looking any of it up I am guessing the majority of the league won playoff game(s) during that stretch.

Nobody's comparing him to the incompetent SP that was just run out of town but that doesn't mean he was a success either. That's also not to say he never did anything right. But at the end of the day the results were not up to snuff.

Carl helped build the franchise into what it was in the 90's and early 2000's. He did fine.

If Peterson had left in 2005, with Dick Vermeil, he'd be a hero.

Unfortunately, he outstayed his welcome. But that shouldn't negate his work from 1989-2005.

'89-'97 maybe. 1998-2005 weren't anything to write home about. I'd contend that what we're seeing now is just a continuation of the spiral Peterson started in the late '90s. It's in some ways reminiscent of the current economy, with prior (mis-)management from years ago causing lots of problems, the savior management brought in 4 years ago unable to fix them, due in no small part to flaws of their own. No re-election for Pioli though.

A hero? Heroes lead their franchises to playoff victories.

He's still a stupid mother****er who hired Gunter and fired him over the internet, drafted LJ, thought just bringing in Gunter for DC was enough for one offseason, can't draft worth a SHIT unless a coach with decent prior success helped him and never wanted to draft a QB in the first round because he was too scared.

**** King Carl.

Yeah he was a ****ing idiot for drafting a RB to replace one that was getting up there in age and had a gimp hip. As much as a **** LJ was, he was a damn good RB for a few seasons and this entire team leaned on him in 2006 while we had Damon ****ing Huard as a QB.

But I will agree, that he should have left after 2005. The entire philosophy w/ the DV hire was that this was DV's last go around...he was old but still had a little spark of coaching left. Carl went all out to trade away draft picks and assemble a team that could win NOW. We came somewhat close in 2003. But Carl did everything the coaches wanted him to do...he went out and got players the coaches wanted..and that's all you could have asked for.

Look at is this way....had he left in 2005, he would have left the cupboard bare completely ...no Charles or any of that 2008 draft which could now with a good coaching staff and HC (hopefully an answer at QB) will make this team a winner

LJ had a HOF LT and LG along with the best blocking FB, pair of TE's and some guy named Brian Waters blocking for him. His stats are so skewed.

And we were never close to going to the SB in 2003. Even if we did somehow manage to beat Indy, we would have been RAPED up in New England by Romeo and his defense that had star players everywhere.
