So when do they extend Smith's contract?
This is the done-est deal ever right? and what does he get?
with one year remaining, do they add 3-4 years? 5? ...30 mill guaranteed? more? Smith's current contract: http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/3119/alex-smith Quote:

Dude has to make it through the season healthy, which HAS been a problem and his tendency to tuck and run doesn't bode well.
If we continue at this pace and he stays healthy, I have no problem extending him. He will have earned it, unlike some QBs we know. I agree that Albert walks, Fisher is moved to left (god help us), and Stephenson comes in at right. First round pick next year will absolutely be a tight end or speed receiver. Please let Marquis Lee fail a weed test at the combine... |

Wont happen this year. Why should they? Doesn't make business sense for either party. Alex Smith if he plays out this deal, will probably be signing his last contract as a pro.
I say it wont happen until after next season.

it's not like there was ever any doubt, they didn't trade 2 seconds for a player they had any doubts about extending...

You over estimate the importance of draft picks. The Chiefs just made sure they got their guy, and over paid to get him.

Don't see it for this season. When KC goes to the playoffs and regardless of the results there (unless disastrous).. I think they then try to extend him in the 2014 offseason. I wouldn't at all be surprised if Alex takes a discount either. He's not about the money. He knows that the extra money can go to an impact player to help the team win... and he is all about the winning.

If he can consistently play the way he did in the second half of the Giants game and continue to trust himself to throw into average sized spaces an NFL QB should be able to...I'm not sure I'd bitch about an extension.
The problem is that you can guarantee the deal will be for big money. I'd say 6 years 100 million. Or more I wasn't pissed that we traded for Alex, I was pissed that we gave up so much. I have a feeling It's gonna be similar when he signs his extension. "he got WHAT?" All we can hope for is that he earns it. |

I would expect him to get 3-4 more years if his great play keeps up. |

I think he looks like a safe bet to give us good play at the QB position for the next few years, provided he can avoid the health issues |

If the Chiefs win the SB before his current contract ends, then extend him. If not, adios muchacho
