Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert AP

The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

The fact that Alex Smith took that many sacks behind that in the type of offense they run is worriesome.
Which is why I think they want Joeckel.

But honestly I'd take Whitworth/Smith over Staley/Davis any day. Mainly because I am not an Anthony Davis fan. I think he's vastly overrated.

You are hellbent on Joeckel. He doesn't really fit the Reid mold, at all. He isn't a mauler, IMO, he's about on par with Albert. He's good in space.

I'd take Anthony Davis over Andre Smith any day.

Because the first overall pick has to impact wins and losses at a significant level...do you think the difference between Albert and Joeckel is gonna make an impact in the win/loss category going forward?

I agree with Dane...I'd trade back to the mid first, if I had to, if we could get a 2nd rounder as compensation.

We can get equal impact on the team by drafting a guy at 15 as we do at one, but there are teams that far back that can really use a guy like Joeckel or Fisher.

A lot of really good players are gonna be there in the mid first that could give us an adequate upgrade to a spot of need.

Want to upgrade the offensive line?

Good, lock up Albert and trade back to 15 or so and take Warmack or Cooper and add SOMETHING that we can use to add another starter.

I actually like Fisher more, but I think Joeckel is a good prospect who can provide excellent LT play for 10 years.

Btw-Andre Smith was the top rated RT on PFF last year for a reason. He had a great year.

Like I said, if they think Joeckel or Fisher have the upside of more than Albert, make the move. They obviously don't want to pay Albert and don't think he fits what they want at LT.

Fisher and Joeckel are rated that high for a reason, IMO.

DUDE, it was sarcasm.

Of course there have been left tackles that started Day One and played extremely well.

Smith had a great year, in a contract year. Surprised?

Sure, Joeckel is a good prospect, but I don't think he has the upside that Fisher does and he just isnt' the type of LT Reid seems to gravitate towards.

Like I said, I like Albert. But he's a bit overrated here, IMO and it's pretty obvious he's not in the plans of the regime at this point.

Just trade him and get it over with and lets move on.

They obviously offered him what they want to pay him. He doesn't want that, he wants more. What should they do then?

Danny Parkins made a great comment on this entire deal today on 610.

Joeckel/Fisher have a lot of talent in this league and can be an upgrade to Albert, who was the 25th ranked OT in 2012 (17th rated LT).

The Chiefs don't have that much money right now. Saving that money could be HUGE.

Why? Justin Houston's in year 3 of his 4 year contract. We could be saving that money to give him an extension next offseason. He's not going to be cheap at all with the production he's putting up.

He was the best young player on the defense last year.

Joeckel and Fisher have talent in what league?

Thats fine if they go that route, but Joeckel or Fisher better be atleast a top 10 ranked OT, immediately.
