Does DJ start for us this year?

Im curious to know the opinions of some. He received first-round tender that should speak high volumes about how this organization feels about him.

DJ has always been one of those real interesting players to me who shows both flashes talent and playmaking ability at times. But he also displays a lack of consistency, and is not a fundamentally sound football player. He makes too many mental errors on the field. That side has got the best of him.

Im just wondering if his performance against the Broncos and his playmaking ability throughout the year was a good enough sign or indication to convince the coaching staff that they'll give him his chance to start. And so they should. He is arguably a lot more talented then Mays and Williams and is one of the few guys we have on defense that can actually make plays. Plus, I'd like to see how he performs or is utilized under Crennel.

He has disappointed me thus far into his career simply because I believe he needs to work more on the fundamental aspects of his game and has to be mentally tougher as a player. Could he do this by maturing and by being with the right coach? I just think its clear he is not a sound player, but hopefully that can come with time. I hope he fully develops and Im glad the Chiefs didn't give up on him.

I agree that the 1st round tender means the Chiefs want him around. But I think the ball is in his court to get his shit together. He has to prove that he belongs in the NFL on every play and wants to play.

I'm pretty sure that the 1st round tender is being used as a starting off point for trade negotiations. If someone offers them a 2nd round pick....I don't see them turning it down.

Agreed.

Because at this point, a consistently average Demorrio is as good if not better than an inconsistently very good DJ. Given how inconsistent DJ is.

I'd gladly take a 2nd for DJ.

If he is gonna EARN his starting spot back, he will be lifting more weights during this offseason that ever before in his life and will come in looking like he isnt made of cookie dough anymore.

He needs to get a lot stronger if he is to play the run better and that is the key to him earning his first and second downs back IMHO.

Now that you guys have a real defensive coordinator it should be interesting to see what happens with DJ. I don't think there's any question that he'll start, it's whether he's going to sink or swim with some good coaching.

Should the Chiefs have drafted Aaron Rodgers instead of DJ??

We'd have to trade DJ for a 2nd and package that with another pick to move back up into the mid-late first round to get him.
