The Chiefs need to draft players that have produced for more than 1 season in college.
Examples? Larry Johnson, Junior Siavii, Ryan Sims, Sylvester Morris.

Would you say Kris Wilson is an example of what you want. He's a tweener. He's not fast, but not slow. He's not big, but not small. He's just a player. Or, at least, that's why they drafted him. We'll have to wait and see. If KW turns out to be good, then he would support your theory, right?

Football players is what KC should draft.
Id rather have a team full of football players than half a team of *stars*.

Kris Wilson panning out would do nothing to the theory. He would just be an exception to the norm. Getting it right 1 out of 5 times isn't enough to justify this "project" BS.

IMO, the CHIEFS seem to draft these guys that have great combines rather than guys who have a history of playing well and it is absolutely killing them. Two guys that come to mind are Eddie Freeman and Kawika Mitchell. I'd like to think that this was just an ugly trend in the D.V. era, but then I remember picks like Bartee and Jenkins and then I remember who has been around for them all...

Ed Podolak is a good example of this. If you just looked at his numbers, you wouldn't even send a scout. He wasn't fast and he wasn't big. And he was white with no moves. But he was 100% football player. Dallas had a guy named Walt Garrison that was like that too. Just all guts and toughness.

Here's a quick list of guys that we could have had with our first picks since 2000:
2000: Sylvester Morris instead of: Chris Hovan Keith Bullock Ian Gold 2001: (Traded for Trent Green) Our best productivity out of a first round pick in quite a while, so I cannot complain. 2002: Ryan Sims instead of: John Henderson Roy Williams Dwight Freeney Phillip Buchannon Ed Reed Considering the talent available, moving up to grab Sims was not the best of moves. 2003: Moved down from the 16 spot and drafted Larry Johnson at 27. Considering this was nothing more than an insurance policy for Priest Holmes, we could have easily addressed this need in free agency (i.e. Antowain Smith). With a suspect defense, we could have stayed at 16 and addressed the DT position by drafting William Joseph. With the 27 pick, we could have drafted Andre Woolfolk, Boss Bailey, or E.J. Henderson. This would have freed up our second round pick to address our need for a true #1 WR in Anquan Boldin instead of reaching on another project in Kawika Mitchell. 2004: Traded from #30 to move into the second to grab Junior Siavii. With not much talent being available at the #30 spot, I do not blame the Chiefs organization for moving down and taking Junior Siavii. The selection of Junior at #36 could be easily considered a reach, but with the lack of talent on the board, I doubt we could have done much better. We all know that hindsight is 20/20, but it wouldn't have been difficult to upgrade our talent level considerably with a little better scouting. |
