Props to Zack, ( as in Greinke ) not the CP spelling & grammar police commissioner.

I would include Charlie Leibrandt in that group as well.

Depends on how you describe "Great."
Greinke's never had to pitch in a pressure situation, but winning a Cy Young on a team that almost lost 100 games is no small feat. I think Steve Carlton was the last guy to win one on such a crappy team. If I had my druthers, on great Royals STARTING pitchers (and I've literally seen them all) I'd say top ten are: 1) Bret Saberhagen 2) Dennis Leonard 3) Steve Busby 4) Greinke (I predict he'll throw his first no-no next year) 5) Paul Splittorff 6) David Cone 7) Mark Gubicza 8) Danny Jackson 9) Larry Gura 10) Kevin Appier |

This news brightens my day. I'm proud of Zack for getting through his early trials and tribulations and earning this distinguished award despite being on a team that rarely gave him any semblance of run support.

As heard on 610 driving home, while playing Zack/h's highlight quotes from his national press tour today:
Q: Zack/h, what has been on your mind the last two months? A: "Well, uh...ah...uh... I got this game I've been playing a lot. World of Warcraft. That's taken up a lot of my time. I haven't really been thinking about baseball a whole lot. And Emily, also. That's pretty much what I've been doing." God, I ****ing love ZG. |

Or another great quote from ESPN.com...
"Back in Orlando, I haven't really got a whole lot of attention from people, which has been nice," he said. "So I hope it doesn't get that way, where everyone is like, 'Oh, hey, Zack, hi.'" |

The guy's a fantastic interview. I know he hates doing them, but I'm damned glad he does. You don't get the usual boring sports cliches with him. |
