College/School Loans
Alright, who else has them, and how much do you owe. My fiance is going to have to take out loans for this semester and all of next year, and just for her school we will have at least 15k to pay back Now considering that total amount is for 4 years at a very Prestigious Nursing school in our area it's really not bad, but that's the amount even with her 3.9gpa and all her scholarships. Ideally we would like for her to work for a couple years, so hopefully we can pay them back in that time.

My school plans have had to once again be put on hold, oh well I guess, it's depressing how much school costs. I really would like to keep taking classes, but financially it just wont do currently. It's funny the kids who don't care about school get their parents to pay for it, and those who want to go to school cant pay for it. Yes I know there are student loans, currently I cannot get enough to cover my schooling and hers.

Their platform doesn't really work like that. Now that being said you can work for the Hospital (the school is through) and get half your tuition paid. Currently she has been applying on every floor for the past year and still not had a shot. So she only has one more year left and she's done thankfully.

We're on this zero debt kick and just have the house. Unfortunately, it'll be a long time before we can say that's gone.

It sounds like a silly platform.


I know someone who got a cna in HS, worked in one of those jobs until she got her RN, worked as an RN through the completion of 4yr, and then as BSN through masters classes.

Maybe its' different there, but I can think of at least 5 cousins and 3 other direct relatives in some segment of a similar path to the above. Some didn't go beyond the RN though.

As long as the school is good enough to pass their boards, unless someone is going to try to be a nurse anesthetist or something higher.....where is the advantage to a "really good, expensive school" in that profession? Nurses are in high demand.


As for my loans, I think I was around $30k in the hole when I got out. I paid extra on the smallest loan, when it was paid off put all of that onto the 2nd smallest and so on. Paid off the 20 year notes in 9 doing that.

Exactly right. At this point it's useless for her to sit for her LPN when she will graduate with her BSN in a year.

Ok I am not going to ask you how much you make, but my cousin has her MBA and teaches high school Lit, and she makes about 30k at a low income high school in Seattle, just sad.

This is only true if you teach, Math, Science, or Special Education. All other subjects is 5k i believe after 5.

For two years undergrad and 1 year grad - $7500 in student loans

Army Loan Forgiveness Program - 4 year enlistment. (Plus automatic promotions for college degree).

I think it worked out pretty well.

I think The Bad Guy is teaching in PA. The rules could be different than Missouri's.

Missouri is notoriously a cheap state when it comes to paying teachers. I was offered a full-time teaching position (teaching 4th Grade) at a mid-Missouri school. I joined the Army because an E-4 in 1984 made more a month than a teacher.
