Knile Davis

Okay, so I was pretty pissed when we took this kid. On paper, he has a shit ton of fumbles and Moeaki-like ankle.

However... watching this highlight tape, albeit from 2010, gave me wood.

2 RB's with 4.3 speed is not a bad thing. He runs hard, is tough to bring down, and has blazing speed. God forbid JC goes down at all, our entire offensive scheme wont have to be completely altered.

I don't like WHERE he was picked, but I'm glad he's a Chief, so long as he can bring this to the table:

230 lb running backs with 4.3 speed from the sec don't last to the 5th rnd.

Looking back, it's clear to me that Dorsey and Reid want to improve the athleticism on the roster.

Fisher was the more athletic LT. Kelce is a freak athlete. Davis is a rare combination of size and speed. His burst through the hole is amazing. He accelerates the way a 170 pound RB would, but he's a house.

You act like he is Stephen Hawking.

The dude had a bad broken ankle once and took a year off to heal.

Last year he pulled a hammy early in the season and never got a chance to let it heal fully.

If he is healthy, it's a great pick.

Davis is the rare player that can break the defenders and his own ankles on the same play.

Still like the pick though.

Thomas Jones - 215-220 lbs
Peyton Hillis - 240-250 lbs
Jackie Battle - 235-240 lbs
When he was healthy as sophomore, he average 6.5 yards per run. He is a home run hitter in a bruiser back body. Hell of a pick for the Chiefs.

It's interesting that they drafted a lot of offensive players, but no WRs. Reid must feel like he can get more out of Baldwin and McCluster, and feels good about Bowe and Avery.

If you looked at the roster before the draft, WR the players are at least servicable compared to other spots on the roster that they filled for depth.

Speed Score is a metric NFL Scouts use to project how much power and speed a running back has and how well that running back will perform in the NFL.You should note that the Speed Score is not the end-all, be-all. For instance, the all-time leading rusher, Emmitt Smith had a Speed Score of around 96.5.

Why is it important?
It's built on the simple idea that, because smaller backs tend to run faster than larger backs, we should be more impressed by a 4.5-second 40-yard dash from a 220-pound back than the same clock reading from a 170-pound back.

How Scoring works:
Quote:
An average score for a running back is 100. A good score is 110 and a great score is 120.

Disclaimer:
This is not the end all be all of tape, this is simply another way to show how speed and weight benefit or harm prospects coming out. For the record, the only running back since 1999 to be drafted with a score under 98 and make a pro-bowl is Brian Westbrook...Alfred Morris, is close to him in terms of production, having a score of 92.

Knile Davis, Arkansas- 126.79

***Knile Davis is the highest score since 1999, but not best of all time, that is Bo Jackson and his score of 147.8.

Bo Jackson was such a freak of nature. Like Hercules or Achilles.

Knile Davis hasn't been healthy since 2010, which is why everyone scratched their heads when they took him in the 3rd. Maybe they really wanted to make sure he didn't get away.
