I rememeber it flopping originally. My friend bought it, we both hated it. I think everyone was expecting License to Ill part 2 in 1989.

It wasn't untilt the late 90s that I really listened to it again and loved it.

How could anyone hate that album? It was awesome. Literally something for everyone. Hey Ladies was pop-y, High Plains Drifter was hard, Shake Your Rump (ah) was fun, and Shadrach (and others) were disco-y.

Well, like I said...a lot of us were expecting another metal mash up like License to Ill. Rememeber that was what was popular at the time. Paul's Boutique was a few years ahead of its time IMO. Your right though, it's a genuine classic now.

Because it was different from License to Ill. In all reality beastie Boys with pretty much every single release has different sounds for their albums. NOthing wrong with that as i love it.

That happens a lot I think. My older sister gave me her copy of Houses of the Holy after just a couple plays. Said she couldn't stand it. After Led Zep IV it was a big departure. I still give her a hard time about it....
