edit - I guess he's still directing. I'm good with this I guess.
I watched Godzilla last night and came away very impressed. His direction was excellent, IMO, very economical without being cold. He didn't waste a scene and was able to elicit true emotion from the actors without being corny.

He wasn't afraid to kill off characters, either, which was surprising yet awesome. The action scenes were very well done and I liked the "look" of the film. No color drenching or washing. The conventional sets were cool, too.

I think this spin off is in very good hands.

Some new info on one of the sites. Sounds kinda hokey to me.

http://makingstarwars.net/2015/02/st...super-weapons/

Quote:
Snow Planet – I’m told the snow planet is definitely not Hoth and was named RYOOME on several production documents.

Rey – Rey is not Daisy Ridleys’ characters name throughout the movie. It’s an alias to hide her true identity in true Star Wars tradition just like Padme/Amidala, Ben/Obi-Wan and Darth Vader/Anakin.

Death Star III - This is a big one that I’ve heard from two different people and if true would be a major shock. The movie features a weapon based on a remote planet. The weapon can detect Jedi across the Galaxy and is used by the Empire to hunt them down. This is why some Jedi are in hiding.

A major new ship codenamed ‘the mirror’ is also somehow connected to the weapon. The weapon is either too large or too powerful to be destroyed. So…….the planet must be destroyed. And how do you destroy a planet in Star Wars? A Death Star. Leia, has to make an incredible decision to use a Death Star to destroy a planet. The planet is inhabited apart from Imperials. The Death Star? It was being built in secret by the New Republic. Leia discovers whats been going on and then has to make a decision whether to use it or not.

It sounds incredible but that’s what I’ve been told by a couple of different people.

And finally – This might come as a shock considering what all the actors have been saying but not everyone is entirely happy with the way the movie is heading. Several people have told me they feel like they are just ‘going over old ground’ with the things they are being asked to work on. The feeling is that The Force Awakens is a rehash of the original movie and doesn’t have enough new ideas in it.

The prequels were full of new ideas and concepts but as one person put it to me there’s a ‘lack of imagination’ around The Force Awakens and everything is just a riff on what’s already been done.

Sorry to end that on a negative note but that’s a common feeling I’m getting.

Well that sucks.

Anyone read the spoiler about the X-wing pilot being Han's kid and Luke has to "disarm" him, and that he's hiding his force-sensitivity, and that Luke deflects a shot from Han that kills Han at the end and so on?

I find this difficult to believe.

First off all, filming is complete, save for a few pickup shots. The idea of "not liking where it's heading" is ridiculous since it's done.

Also, "Super Weapons" like the Death Star aren't what made the OT great. It was the characters, interaction and overall story arc. JJ Abrams know this and it's hard for me to believe such a fan of the OT would miss that entirely.

Whoa, the guy refers to "George's reference to ambiguity"? Now I know it's fake becaise there isn't a shred of George's initial 7-9 storyline left.

Bogus.

Nice.

I bet she's part of the bounty hunter crew tasked with stealing the Death Star plans.

Maybe not an actual bounty hunter, but maybe Leia tasks her with leading it.

Also heard a rumor that Fassbender was going to play Boba Fett but probably bullshit.

I'd guess there's a 99% chance that Felicity is Leia.

But with Sabine Wren rumored to be a part, will the entire crew of Ghost be a part of the film as well?

I think it would be pretty difficult to keep Fassbender's name under wraps but Aaron Paul's name has been tossed around quite a bit.

A few weeks ago, Paul played Luke in a live reading of The Empire Strikes Back.

Really great episode. They nailed Tarkin. A bit of a cliffhanger too. I won't spoil.

I'm really pissed off that wasn't filmed. I'd buy a copy just to see Hamill playing Obi-Wan and The Emperor. And Stephen Merchant as C-3P0, my god.

I would have gone but I had a couple of sick kids.

It's a major bummer but they can't film or do an audio record due to the rights, which would be a nightmare to clear.
