NFT: Penguins' sale falls through

As I watch the Pens play the Isles right now, I can't help but feel excited that this team may somehow, someway find its way to KC. What a great team with a nucleus of young superstars. |

I'll definitely be in for one of those 6 or 12 game packages, if they do something like that.
This would be freakin' sweet. It's not like a reject team. It's a team with a good core and one of the best young players in the league. |

Doesn't Kemper usually host a NHL preseason game every year?
What has attendance been like for that the past few years? |

I'm not trying to rip here, but Royals tickets are among the lowest priced in the league, baseball is "America's Pastime" and attendance is horrible. Granted, so is the team, but still. NHL hockey tickets are RIDICULOUSLY expensive. I just can't see Kansas Citians plunking down close to what they do for Chiefs games. Is a family of 4 going to spend $200 on tickets to a weeknight game against Atlanta? |

But...if they win, yes. I think so. Especially if you got playoff hockey, KC would eat that up I think. There's been very little playoff success to cheer for in the last 20 years. I think if you got into a conference finals or Stanley Cup series, it would be crazy. That's why I think the Pens would be a great fit, they'd sell tickets. |

Everyone seems to think it's so easy in the NHL because 16 teams make the playoffs. IIRC, there hasn't been a back-to-back Cup winner in years. (I could be wrong, too lazy to look it up) Attendance is suffering in many NHL cities....even the clubs who win. The tickets are just too expensive. I used to go to 20-25 Blues games a year. I just can't do it anymore. And STL has pretty reasonable tickets. |

Actually, that'd be the advantage to having Crosby. He'd be a draw regardless of record. |

Here's an up-to-date list of what it costs to attend a NHL game in each city. The Premium Average Ticket column is an important one....who's gonna shell out $100/per for 41 nights to sit in those seats? http://www.teammarketing.com/fci.cfm..._nhl_06-07.cfm |

I know how hard it is here in STL. We're the Chiefs of the NHL. Always "Wait 'til next year." St. Louis has always been a great hockey town. Even the down years, the building would be at 75% capacity, even on weeknights. Now, it's a ghost town down there. I went to a game earlier this year and they didn't even announce the attendance. On a Saturday night. Against the Blackhawks, a division rival. Hockey has been a tradition in STL for 40 years, and support is hard to come by. Mainly, because of ticket prices, IMO. Good read here.... http://proicehockey.about.com/cs/bus...ket_prices.htm |

See, look, they get to the NHL highlights on Sportscenter just now, and once again, the Pens are the first team they do. It's like that every night. That's what the Pens bring that none of these other teams do, recognition. They'd get KC on ESPN more than the Chiefs and Royals do combined probably.

If I remember right, KC had a hockey team called the Scouts here in the 70's and it couldn't get support.
Why do we think hockey will garner support now? Hell, after the turnout Topeka gave to the Scarecrows in the 90's, I would think hockey would do better here than in KC.
