*.* 2014 General Fitness Thread *.*

Welcome to 2014! Now get your ass in top physical condition!

No one else started it so here it is!

**From the 2013 Thread**

If you want to get back into lifting, or need a new lifting routine, START HERE:

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wi...inner_Programs

If you have questions about the SS programs, look here:

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ

Keep in mind that you're a novice lifter for a longer period of time than you think you are. Novice lifting can last anywhere from a few months to a year or two, depending on how hard you hit the weights and where you started.

Once you've reached the point where you don't make regular progress on the SS program, you are ready to move on to the intermediate stage, which can last you for a good number of years. Find it HERE:

http://madcow.hostzi.com/5x5_Program/Linear_5x5.htm

If you're a very advanced lifter (many, many years of CONSISTENT weight training), then there are lot of programs out there, and which one you pick is simply a matter of preference. If you're really that advanced, you should know what works for you and what doesn't by this point.

Lots of lean animal protein. I try to get 25g per "meal" or 150g per day. Throw in some carbs. I like to time them about 2 hours before my workouts (so my afternoon snack) and immediately after a weight training workout (so dinner). I'm a cheese hound, so I also get plenty of fat during the day (although I try not to go over 27g total).

I'm sure others in here may not agree with my diet, but it works for me.

Also, been thinking about this. Matthew McConaughey lost roughly 50 lbs in 4 months for Dallas Buyers Club by eating tapioca pudding for breakfast, a serving of fish and a cup of vegetables twice in the day and as much red wine as he wanted at night.

That's gotta take a lot of willpower. Especially when you get a shitload of cravings for junk food or sweets.

He was probably on stuff, too. HGH, appetite suppressants, etc.

I've completely changed the way I look at food. Everything is macros...lol. Everything is fuel. I don't miss fast food or junk that much, if at all. If I'm craving something, I allow myself to have it for my "cheat" meal for the week.

You can get a form of appetite suppressants over the counter can't you?

Because they are too busy drinking and staying up way too late to eat decent food consistently. E.g. they miss a lot of meals in which case anyone would lose a ton of weight and be rail thin.

Does it actually work though? I kid you not, I am so stuck on junk food and sweets. I talked to a friend of mine who is a nutritionalist and he told me that it's most likely due to what I grew up on, which was true.
Lots of sweets in the house and pizza, cheeseburgers etc were constantly brought into the house when I was a kid, so it's very likely that my body (specifically brain) has been wired to this type of food and the dopamine overload that the pleasure portion of your brain gets when you eat that kind of food is extremely difficult to get rid of and takes a very long time.

I've heard that getting rid of junk food completely can be just as challenging for someone to break as it is for a person trying to quit drugs because of the reason I listed above.

I don't know if appetite suppressants will help with that, though.
