Will Shields. Kansas City Chief. Hall of Fame

...worthy of discussion on Chiefsplanet.

Will Shields was a dominant component of a dominant offensive line during the glory days in the 90s. Watching him pull and flatten DEs and LBs that got into his way was awesome. My favorite was him making Ray "I murder people" Lewis cry like a dainty lady on MNF.

Great Chief who deserves the honor of the HOF....and some discussion here.

Please share your favorite Will Shields moment, or a story of a positive personal interaction

12 consecutive pro bowl selections
223 consecutive starts.

I think so.

I would love to say Justin Houston is just as good of a pick but he still has a long ways to and is still early in his career.
Jim Tyrer
Gary Barbaro
Henry Marshall
Gary Spani
Albert Lewis
Kevin Porter
Dustin Colquitt
Barnden Flowers
Jamaal Charles

Those are some of the memorable 3rd round picks over the years.

Jim Tyrer was considered by many as the best LT to have ever played the game when retired, and should be in the HoF in spite of the tragedy of his life and death after he retired.

Albert Lewis was an outstanding corner.

And there's Charles, of course.

I'd be hard pressed to vote if it came down to it, between Tyrer, Charles and Shields.

I'd have to take into consideration that there were only 8 picks per round when Tyrer was selected (Number 22 overall), so it would be between Shields and Charles.

It's an interesting question. The key, though, is whether Jamaal would fit the attributes of that OL. Priest was a perfect fit for them because he would let them get out in front of him and then follow the blocks. Jamaal's style is different. He uses his blockers well up the middle, but on the outside his game is speed. I don't see that line running sweeps with Jamaal like they did with Priest.

That offense was perfectly constructed for each other. All time OL, great blocking TEs, best FB in the league, and a running back who was extremely patient yet had incredible acceleration and quickness with the first 10 yards, which was great for moving the chains. And, was willing to sacrifice his body on the goal line so he was pretty much impossible to stop. Probably didn't help his durability, but it made him one of the best goal line backs ever.

When he had Albert in front, he had the patience to let Albert get in front and open a hole.

Charles has that same vision and patience, but there's no sense waiting for linemen that are tripping over their own two feet trying to get out in front.

Flowers was a second rounder.

Will's 68 Sports facility is a block or so down the street from where I work. I saw him in Hy-Vee about a year ago. He looks like he could still play.
