What about Somewhere That's Green that I posted earlier? It's a perfect fit.

Oh, here's a good one, and I really like this song. "LA County" by Lyle Lovett.
I think it works, though it's got a twist at the end. If you've never heard this song, it's worth a listen.

I like that. Always liked Lyle Lovett. I don't think Ray will pick it but I'll put it on the list.

There's a woman here in town that spent years in an abusive marriage. The story told to me was that the guy wouldn't even let her sing publicly though she has a great voice. She eventually broken free, and some musicians in town formed a band around her, Dottie & the Rail. I think she has met a good man since, but also she was reunited with her love of preforming. http://www.myspace.com/dottietherail
they did covers of classic country. They don't play anymore that I know which is a shame, because they were a nice, feelgood set compared to all the indie/emo/metal bands that play in town. |

ok, now I'll tap into my inner FABULOUS and suggest..
Gloria Gaynor - I Will Survive Ace of Base - I Saw the Sign And now back to better songs and my TOP domestic abuse song sung by a female ... Voices Carry by Til Tuesday, featuring the amazing Aimee Mann (although I am pretty sure it was not originally meant to be about abuse in it's original version) |

Saw those and suggested I Will Survive also. The prob I see is they're songs not about the abuse or finding new love, but the joy/freedom/empowerment they feel, which I think is a more important feeling and common theme than actually finding that next love. Rilo Kiley - Silver Lining is another good song that fits that theme.
There's gotta be a better fit, but Death Cab For Cutie - You're Heart Is An Empty Room is about the feeling of being single, feeling alone, but knowing it's better than being where you were. Written by a man though. "Out on the street Are so many possibilities To not be alone ... The flames and smoke climbed out of every window And disappeared with everything that you held dear And you shed not a single tear for the things that you didn't need 'Cause you knew you were finally free" Last edited by KChiefer; 10-28-2012 at 10:01 AM.. |

Abuse song: White Knuckles by Elvis Costello (he has a ton more but this one is probably one of the most obvious ones)
