Of course, they went 0-3 in those games, but at least they were competitive in two of them, and it's not like we can expect the world in year 1 with this group of receivers and offensive line. There's more work to be done, and I don't exactly think beating up on shitty teams is all that impressive either, but I think he's accomplishing enough to at least lay off until he chokes in the playoffs or something.

Seriously though, t's just childish to keep grasping at straws... his performance in the past few weeks doesn't mean everyone with concerns were flat out wrong, it doesn't necessarily mean everyone who was sold after week 1 was absolutely right (I know, it sucks when it's not black and white), and if he does prove his biggest doubters wrong in the playoffs, you should be happy about it (assuming you're a Chiefs fan).
He's been mostly what I expected - perhaps overachieved considering our injuries and drops by WR's.

What I've respected most is his demeanor. He's not a screaming prick when he throws a perfect pass and the WR just drops it....for the 3rd time. He doesn't let it bother him. He doesn't point and talk $#it.

He's grown as the season has gone on and that's with us being a pass first team instead of a run first team using play action.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

What's your current opinion on Alex Smith as a franchise QB? I know at one time you backed off and stated you would be pissed he was the long term QB for your team.

There will always be something.

I mean Geno takes a 6 win team to maybe 8 at best and that's progress Alex has a 2 win team at at least 11 and has to win a playoff game for it to be progress. The dudes to stupid to even bother with anymore I'm just going to put him on ignore

I agree with this 100%

But there are some who are expecting the world in year 1 no matter how much they deny it. Even yesterday they were going on and on about how the tds came on screen passes. WHO CARES? They got TDs just be happy about that.

I'm not saying Alex has proven himself to be the guy even yesterday in the extension thread I said I want to see how he does in the playoffs first. But to go on and on when the offense puts up as many points as they did yesterday to discredit Alex because of the plays that were called is just stupid

Didn't watch yesterdays game since its finals week.

But I'd just like to congratulate Smith for popping that 20 TD cherry.

Better late than never.

I am wondering what Chiefs fans think of the trade decision these days. I realize people are waiting to see how things go in the playoffs, but right now, with two weeks left, anyone still think it was a bad decision, or the price was too high?

I have to say, I was very happy with his performance in 2011 and 2012, given what had been happening in prior nine seasons, and since he was drafted in 2005. But it seems to me he is now playing quite a bit better than he did in 2011 and 2012. Statistically, he is not drastically better, but he definitely has something now, confidence, presence on the field, that he did not have in 2011 and 2012.

So, anyway, was it a good trade?

I'm pretty much in the same boat... I've just gone from being in a holding pattern while pointing out how 6-0, 7-0, 8-0, etc; just aren't that impressive, to simply being in a holding pattern. I'm not going to crown the guy, but there's no point in trying to dismiss every little thing, either.

I waited a couple of months for the Denver games, and was actually more optimistic than any other point of the season after the 2nd loss, considering we've all known they're at least another season away, and they did what I was hoping, which was to simply compete.

So yeah, there's the next step that every skeptic has yet to see, and it's a bit tougher than beating up on the quitters in DC or the hapless Raiders.... and while I'm certainly not going to drop $500+ to see them in a road playoff game, I've gone from apathetic/jaded to cautiously optimistic... baby steps.
