Chiefs prepared for invasion of Steelers fans on Sunday

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

http://espn.go.com/blog/afcwest/post...fans-on-sunday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid kicked off the practice week Wednesday with his standard remarks to the media before a game at Arrowhead Stadium.

“We look forward to playing the Pittsburgh Steelers," Reid said. “We know they’re a good football team and we’ll welcome them into Arrowhead here."

In this case, Reid needs to be careful what he wishes for. Arrowhead could be more hospitable to the road team on Sunday than the Chiefs.

Steelers fans traditionally travel en masse to road games. Pittsburgh fans had a particularly large presence at the Steelers’ last road game, a Monday Night Football game on Oct. 12 at San Diego.

The Steelers are used to that sort of thing.

“I definitely think it’s consistent that you see Steelers fans at away games all the time," Pittsburgh running back Le’Veon Bell said. “There are Steelers fans all over the world and it definitely gets us amped when we come out for warm-ups knowing we’ve still got fans in the stands. It’s definitely a good deal for us.”

The fact that the Chiefs are 1-5 with five straight defeats could further tilt the crowd in favor of the Steelers.

The last home game at Arrowhead, two weeks ago against the Chicago Bears, featured a large number of fans rooting for the road team. Bears fans also traditionally travel well.

So the Chiefs know what the crowd might be like on Sunday.

“We know that there will be a lot of Steelers fans," president Mark Donovan said. “They travel well. They always do."

As for the Chiefs fans, Donovan said, “When you lose four, five in a row, you’re going to see something of a no-show factor."

The Chiefs are 0-2 at home this season, with each game ending in brutal fashion for the home fans. The Chiefs allowed a touchdown in the final minute against the Broncos and Bears to lose each game.

Still, Donovan said he expected plenty of Chiefs fans at the game on Sunday.

“Our fans are supporting us," he said. “They’re out there and they want us to win. We know – Andy knows this, [general manager] John [Dorsey] knows this, [chairman] Clark [Hunt] knows this – we’ve got to win games. The fans deserve better."

The Chiefs are expecting something close to a full house on Sunday. That the Steelers are the road team has a big role in that.

This game, along with those against the Bears and on Sept. 17 against the Denver Broncos, has the highest prices among the Chiefs’ seven regular-season home games, based on their variable pricing plan.

The Chiefs, Donovan said, set a franchise record for single-game ticket revenue for the Broncos game and tied it for the Bears game.

“Pittsburgh will be exactly where those two are," he said.

Yeah, right
Shit, those Pitt fans will probably spend beaucoup bucks up in that ****ing place on Sunday.

If you guys tailgate like we do, we not only do so much-needed food, but we drink a LOT. I'll bring in a flask and maybe buy one soda to dump it in.

You think traveling Pitt fans are going to tailgate from when the gates open??

Nope - they'll be eating $8 Johnsonvilles, $16 Jack Stacks, and drinking $12 beers.

Chunt = $$$$$$!!

Owning an NFL franchise - even a perennial loser like KC - is the epitome of a 'can't lose' situation.

Step 1 - buy NFL franchise
Step 2 - doesn't matter
Step 3 - PROFIT!!

Games like this are so frustrating because even if we were undefeated, there would still be a crap ton of Steelers fans here because too many season ticket holders will sell their tickets for a profit for games like this. Doesn't matter if we suck or are good. They always do it. Pisses me off.

True, but there will be many more when the Chiefs suck like they do now. I sold my tix cuz Im not gonna spend the money traveling all the way to KC, just to see them lose in embarrassing fashion. Not in year 3 of the latest incarnation of a Chiefs team that was supposed to contend. So its on the Chiefs to produce to keep the fans interested.

Something to think about - I live in Houston and attended a game this season that the Chiefs won. That's more than the people who see them play in KC can say. I can also say that about their last playoff win. That's ****ing pathetic.

I can understand it in your case. Thats a big trip. Its the people that live within an hour of KC that drive me up the wall.

I don't think I would drive 3-4 hours to see this shit either but, then again, I wouldn't buy season tickets if I lived that far away.

I remember that playoff win at the Astrodome.

I was getting over the stomach flu. I didn't go to school the next day.

5th grade was horrible.

Yes...I was in 5th grade the last time the Chiefs won a playoff game.

5th ****ing grade.

Shoot, when I drive up, it takes 12 hours. I don't buy season tix but do buy tix for 3 games a year (usually the opener plus 2 others) and that takes a heck of a commitment on my end. This year I only bought tix for 2 games because I also bought tix for the HOU game. Went to the Den game and sold tix for Pitt game. Ironically in '13 I went to 5 home games as I was one of the ones buying tix from season ticket holders selling theirs.

At least I play the part both ways and when I buy tix from a season ticket holder, they're going to another Chiefs fan.

Have son, in college, and not a chiefs fan...

This franchise hates its fanbase more than any other franchise in the NFL. They mock them openly and have no desire to be a contender.

They want us to 'be patient'

I think we've been patient enough.

It's sad when a thread pitting CP members against each other is infinitely more entertaining than the onfield product.

This franchise does indeed openly hate its fanbase.

I don't think they really care who the tix go to, what matters to them is that someone pays for them.

I agree. I was just telling Guru my tix buying and selling habits b/c he was saying it pisses him off when local season tix holders sell theirs to fans of other teams and they proceed to invade Arrowhead. No doubt the Chiefs dont really care where the $$$ comes from.

That was about 10-12 girlfriends ago for me. In fact, I went to that game with one of them.
