*.* 2014 General Fitness Thread *.*

Welcome to 2014! Now get your ass in top physical condition!

No one else started it so here it is!

**From the 2013 Thread**

If you want to get back into lifting, or need a new lifting routine, START HERE:

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wi...inner_Programs

If you have questions about the SS programs, look here:

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ

Keep in mind that you're a novice lifter for a longer period of time than you think you are. Novice lifting can last anywhere from a few months to a year or two, depending on how hard you hit the weights and where you started.

Once you've reached the point where you don't make regular progress on the SS program, you are ready to move on to the intermediate stage, which can last you for a good number of years. Find it HERE:

http://madcow.hostzi.com/5x5_Program/Linear_5x5.htm

If you're a very advanced lifter (many, many years of CONSISTENT weight training), then there are lot of programs out there, and which one you pick is simply a matter of preference. If you're really that advanced, you should know what works for you and what doesn't by this point.

I've got a question about personal trainers. I have a membership at Anytime Fitness, and went ahead and did a free consultation with a PT. The cost for one 60 minute session a week for 5 weeks is going to cost me 130 dollars in addition to my 45 dollar a month gym fee. Why are personal trainers so expensive? Moreover, are they effective? My view of a personal trainer has always been a better looking and more active person encouraging you to do exercises for an hour and then going home.

From my very last belt hole in mid may to #5 at this point, if I wanted to tighten up my diet a bit more it'd go faster, but I'm content with my progress so far.

Why are you concerned about the money ? You're a LEFT Tackle now. They get paid dude. well unless you suck then you won't have a job.

BTW just do some jumping jacks and don't worry about no personal trainer. Don't the Chiefs provide that for you anyway ?

I first read "belt hole" as "butthole".

Not currently, no. Trying to get involved with a rec softball league, and have been playing a bit of tennis here and there.

I'm aiming for 3 sets of 8 reps for each of my lifts; sometimes it'll be one or two fewer and sometimes it'll be a couple more, since I haven't 100% found my limits yet.

Does anybody do cleans? I remember doing them in high school for football.

I feel like that's the most useless workout ever.
