Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

Maybe we'll get lucky and find out on Thursday that Stephenson is the plan, freeing up 1.1 to be used intelligently.

Pretty much no one here believes he is a top 5 LT.

Here's the only thing that matters: he's a good left tackle that doesn't need to be replaced by 1.1.

The market is limited, because there arent many teams in need of a LT.

The teams that are in need are all drafting high.

All this means is that the few teams in need don't believe he's worth a Top 12 pick.

Look, what good did drafting Jake Long and Joe Thomas bring to Miami and Cleveland? And then look at every team that has won the SB in the last ten years. Most of them had solid LT (like Albert) but they clearly didn't need an elite LT.

Based on the games he started, he would have allowed 15 sacks over the course of a whole season.

That's why I've said that. Now, what I would do, is say look Branden. We want you as our LT, but we want you to play under the tag this year because of your back issues last year, if you play and play effectively, you'll be rewarded. That's what I'd do and then take Jordan or Geno.

Except the plan isn't for Albert to play LT. Hasn't been since Reid got on board.

Stephenson needs a couple years to develop. He did alright but not good, for what he was last year coming out of the draft and being thrown into the wolves.
