Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price
Posted by Michael David Smith on April 21, 2013, 6:46 PM EDT
Branden Albert AP

The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

Teams are scared of Big 12 QB's. I am a KSU fan, but even I know how horrifically shitty the defense is in the Big 12.

Because that is where their value is located. If they can get whom they consider the best QB of the class at the top of the 2cd then they should draft one there.

It's not what I would have done when the offseason started, but I think when we see the looks of the team after the draft things will be looking up.

Alex Smith isn't a popular guy around here, but adding a decent head coach and coordinators and switching Cassel out for Smith alone could equal 5 or 6 more wins.

I appreciate your optimism, but that is exactly what we are all afraid of.

8-8 purgatory with an occasional playoff butt-kicking isn't where we want to go.

I am beginning to figure out that maybe that is all that KC can be, though. It is what it is.

Yeah, with all of the changes made this offseason I'm pretty excited and optimistic about our chances of reaching the promised land of 8-8. Maybe if a few things go our way we'll be looking at another one-and-done playoff run too!

Is it possible that they like Don Stephenson enough to start him at LT and start Geoff at RT?

I have a hard time believing they are gonna just burn that top pick, but that's obviously been the plan since the get go.

Obviously, they will be making other improvements and showering off the Pioli years will be a multi-year process.

Yet somehow people believe that drafting a QB that went 7-6 last year is going to take us to the Super Bowl. Has anyone ever bothered to look how low the defenses were ranked when Geno put up his gawdy stats? I did a long time ago, and I think Stephen Hawking could of put up pretty impressive numbers against most of those defenses.

This is coming from someone who wants Geno.

Nobody truly wants to settle for 8-8, but its alot better than 2-14 and completely out of contention.

Personally, i think if everything falls into place and we get solid coaching we could have a chance to compete for the division this year.

You also have to factor into those losses how much WVs defense gave up in those losses.

He does a lot to contribute to this board with videos and gifs and various other things. However, when he picks that one player he doesn't like, he becomes completely insane and lies and can not be reasoned with no matter what you throw at him.

I could quote all his posts and show what an idiot he is which is basically what I did without actually quoting ten posts, if you have the time and motivation you could easily do it.

Again, Richard Sherman is "good" Gochiefs 4-17-13.
