All the pulse ox is doing is reading how full those boats are. As long as they correctly send out the waves, they knockoffs should be fine. As far as why..... Doctors don't want patients self medicating. If we get unreliable readings that don't match the physical signs we can get an ABG, the blood tells the truth. I think they should be available for purchase.
