****Official UFC 162: Silva vs. Weidman Thread****

Unfortunately, I won't be doing pbp (for the few that enjoy it). I think this is a decent card but only worth buying because of Anderson. If you can, check out Edwin Barboza on the prelims.

Pissed off? If anything he should be kissing his feet.

The title reign was going to end sooner or later and Dana was going to cash in on it and an unknown fighter was going to easily use it to to get his name over. Now Dana has a new young fighter to market while Silva is in the twlight/end of career. This run has been going on since like 2006 and they road this cash cow wave for as long as they could in the sport.
It's probably two fold.

1. I'm pretty sure Dana isn't a fan of the way Silva clowns around in the ring and disrespects his opponents. He has taken issue with some of Silva's crap in the past most notably the Maia fight.

2. It takes some steam out of a potential "super fight" with GSP or Bones that would have made a shit load of money.

1. Whether Dana likes a guy or not Dana has always been about the cash grab. Dana and Tito Ortiz was a huge feud and they patched things up just so Dana could cash in on the end of Tito's career.

Dana has a falling out with a lot of guys, but he always turns a blind eye or comes around to the guys that make him the most money. Rampage and Dana had a falling out and the UFC was still making him offers trying to convince him to stay, regardless if he kept saying no.

He's all about $$$. He's probably still trying to get Brock to come back to the UFC because nobody has been able to generate cash like Brock has with that crossover appeal and having 1 million+ buyrates three times. I dont think another UFC star has done close to that.

2. Everybody wins with Silva. Silva gets a payday, and can live comfortably the rest of his life and has even acknowledged as such, Dana gets a new star, and the American fan base get a new UFC fighter they can rally around. So everyone is going to tune in to the next Weidman fight to see if the "Silva killer" can live up to his hype whoever he faces next. Dana will probably give him a gimmie just so fans can be happy the guy holds the title for more than 5 minutes.

The second Silva vs Weidman fight will generate big PPV numbers because people want to see what Silva can do when he takes a fight seriously. Dana White is a promoter, which means he cares about money first.

If anyone was excited about a Silva v Jones/GSP/whoever superfight, I don't think what happened on Saturday makes them less interested. It actually makes it more likely to happen because Silva doesn't have a belt to defend and I don't think the UFC would have 2 champions fighting each other.

Sure it does. You don't hear anybody wanting to see a Mayweather/Pacquiao fight once Pac got KO'd. I don't know if the hit of a Silva loss would be THAT big, but it's a hit none the less. He is no longer viewed as so invincible that's it's going to take a champion from another weight class to beat him.

In typical fashion, I just think Weidman wanted it more.
Silva did not throw the fight, but it's obvious that he wasn't clearly as motivated to win, as it really seems Silva was getting Burnt out.

Again, what do I have to be butthurt about? I'm simply amazed by the people acting like Weidman somehow proved something by beating Silva who threw a couple leg kicks while clowning 90% of the time and got clipped on the chin while standing still and his hands down. It's amusing.

I hate Silva. I hate his clowning. I knew his clowning was eventually going to lead to something like this happening but people are acting like he was excessively clowning because he knew he couldn't beat Weidman. Give me a break. It's how he always fights. Silva gave the belt away with his cockiness more than Weidman took it.

Then why was Weidman the only one who was able to make him pay for the showboating?

most don't sell out throwing punches.

one or two and they stop... Weidman didn't.

Well Weidman did do something that none of the other fighters were able to do inspite of the clowning. So there is some credit due there. It's impossible to say what would have happened without the clowning around, but that has been his style to try to draw guys into his fight and it backfired. I think you are selling Weidman a bit short. He did dominate the 1st round as well.]

This is no where near as big of a fluke as Sierra/GSP IMO.

Lets see how long Weidman holds the belt. If he holds it for at least 7 years then yes, I sold him a bit short.

The guy clipped Silva with a less than half strength, off balance, left hook that happened to land in the exact right spot against a guy that didn't care if he hit him. Excuse me for not crowning this guy.

So a reign of 7 years is now the standard? Silva was and still may be best P4P on the planet, but he got caught. He's 38 now and those reflexes aren't what they once were. Maybe a few years ago he sees and dodges that left.

Nobody is saying Weidman is going to be the best P4P on the planet any time soon, but he's a great fighter as he was the #1 contender and I actually said in the other thread a few months ago I thought he might walk out with the belt. http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showp...postcount=2934

He isn't Matt Serra, ironically enough.

Silva may have been 38 but he was dominating the division and this guy is the first to KO him. So if he is as good as people are making him out to be by this fight then he should have no problem holding that belt for a very long time since no one else could accomplish the luck of clipping Silva where it counted.

Can you show me where someone said a prime Weidman is as good as a prime Silva?
