Casino Users: Your Opinions

OK, so here's the deal. I keep trying to find ways to keep the Casino fun, but keep people from abusing one system or another in order to gain more cash. Unfortunately, every time I think I've got a system that works, people find another way around it.

The current issue, just to lay it out there, is that people are using the reset cash button to get money, then transfer it to another user, then reset, then transfer, etc... That's how some users are magically getting richer and richer without really winning anything.

So what would you all prefer I do about it?

Remove the Casino and focus all attention on adding GENSIS/SNES/NES roms to the arcade.

Honestly, I don't care if people feel the need to cheat the system to get "rich" with play money. The reset button was a great addition, which ensures that everyone has the ability to keep playing even if they hit a stretch of bad luck.

In the end, what does $1,000,000 in casino cash really buy you? The Hold 'Em game is limit poker, so it doesn't allow someone to continuously buy the pot off of players that aren't cheating the system. The other games are just the individual vs. the software, so other members wouldn't be affected.

If enough people are bothered by it, go ahead and disable the transfer function, but I don't see this as a legitimate concern.

That's kind of where I'm at. Cheating gives people an advantage at Hold Em or at Sports Betting, but other than that, it's just you and the computer. Even so, I'm not sure what real purpose money transfers serve at this point now that there's a reset button. So whatever people want to do is fine with me.

Screw the money transfers. Keep the reset. That seems like the easiest resolution while keeping everything functional and allowing everyone to play no matter if they run out of $ or not.

Get rid of the reset button and have people earn casino cash by:
  • donating money
  • clicking on advertising (if we have any)
  • posting in or creating threads/polls
  • earning reputation

I'd be all for the first two if there was a system set up for it. The last two just result in people posting all over the place and "rep whoring," so I'd rather avoid those.

I didn't even know there was a reset button. I say get rid of it. Or only let them use it once a month or so.

It'd be nice to be able to put a time period on it, but I'm not sure how that could be coded. The issue is just allowing people to keep playing for fun, while keeping everything fair at the same time.

I hear you. It would be too much trouble to get the incentives right. In a perfect world, someone who posts a really well received post/thread (like cdcox's draft position calculations in the final week of last season) could be rewarded with casino cash for the service he provided to the community.

You could set things up to just give every member an income of $1000 per week and get rid of the reset button. If payday is Friday and you shoot your wad by Saturday night, you have to wait until the following Friday to get back in the game.

Get rid of the transfer then. We don't need it.

yeah, get rid of the transfer...I thought it was funny and am pleased with my 15.5K for abusing the system! The plan was to get to six figures but it is really much tougher than you think...hitting refresh, transfer, refresh, transfer hundreds of times gets old...

as a database programmer, not sure if a table column available to "track" when reset was used last. Just see if it's been a month from the current date when "reset" is pressed again.

may need a table or new column on user account to track this. Seems simple in principle.
