Today is why we got Shields. You have to match up with the teams in your division. With Shields, we got a horse that can give Verlander a run for his money. Verlander is very, very good. I think he's the best in the American League, and I wish we had him. Moose got a legit double today, so that's good. The team scratched its way into extra innings, and lowered the boom when they got into Detroit's bullpen, which is their weakness, and our strength. This game could be pivotal for our season. Getting swept in Detroit would have been bad. Now these guys know they can play with anybody in the division. No reason to think we should take a back seat to anyone.

Hosmer, the way he's taking walks and hitting singles, is a perfect 2 hitter to set the table for Gordon and Butler.

"Ideal" leadoff hitters get on base more than 300 percent of the time (Alcides' career average). Even the past two years, he's in the .325 range. He just doesn't walk enough or hit for a high enough average to post the OBP you want from a leadoff guy.

I know you like Escobar there, but I disagree with it.

I like him in the 9 spot if they add a MOTL bat like Utley.

Cain is the only guy on the team with the tools to hit first, other than Gordon.

It's never a bad idea to stack right handed hitters...that doesn't matter one bit.

Right handed hitters are used to hitting right handed pitching and also excel at left handed pitching because their breaking pitches break towards them...

You do realize the idea of the "switch hitter" is because those were left handed hitters who couldn't ****ing hit left handed pitching so they said "**** it" and were good enough to start hitting lefties right handed.
