When was the last blackout
'88 or '89 maybe?
I know it's probably not a popular subject but I think it's looming ever closer as I don't see Carl pulling another season out of his ass no matter the draft picks or free agent signings etc. There is no waiting list for tickets anymore and I don't think there's been one for the last couple of years.Granted,Carl has been a marketing genius but it's coming to an end unless he pulls a Saints and dramatically cuts tickets(right). Personally,I know more than a few people(like myself last season)who have said that's it and unfortunately they also know the only way to affect change is to hit them in the pocketbook. Thoughts? |

It's getting too expensive, and the team is disappointing enough that it's no longer worth it to a lot of people.
God bless Chiefs fans because they've sure as hell given more effort than the players have.

Somehow by luck and divine intervention we get into the playoffs and maybe win a game, oh hell what I am thinking.

Your exactly right, thats why Hunt has been keeping him around, the stadium is always packed. Carl hasn't done much lately and its probably getting old for the fans who pay their hard earned money year after year after year and see the same crap.

I'd say 1988. I remember going to the games and buying tickets on the cheap. There were also several bars around town that would show the home games, albeit illegally. I don't think they could get away with that now.

I can see it happening if we lose one of the next two games.
If by some miracle a win against Jacksonville gets us into the playoffs, I think they'll sell out.

But next year.....As most of you know I'm "into" the tailgating scene big time. I have a lot of visitors stop by. I asked them yesterday if they were renewing and some long timers were still deciding. You know your fan base is in trouble when great fans like nzoner stop buying season tickets. Next year that is going to be a big trend. We might see a blackout next year. People are frustrated at the mediocre teams of the King Carl era. They are going to start voting with their money and stay away. The team can't go nowhere. They are locked into a new 25 year lease.

I spoke to several season ticket holders yesterday and thet too have several concerns. Having to purchase pre-season games at such high prices. The possibility of losing one regular home game next year to a foreign country. The annual raise in ticket prices. The displacement of parking at Arrowhead for the next three-four years because of construction. The thought by many is to retain season tickets and sell all but the games you are most interested in seeing. Any season tickets turned back to the team, will be held aside, and than sold as premium packages in the future.

I don't think there will be a blackout. Didn't we get very close to a couple, if not a few, blackouts in the mid to late 90's, only to have some corporate sponsor like Price Chopper buy up the seats to get the show on TV? I'm thinking that will happen this time as well.

I was thinking about this today....
The last time the chiefs looked this vanilla and mediocre....Dave Krieg was the Quarterback of the chiefs.... Of course, King Carl, the marketing genius that he is, goes out and signs Marcus Allen and then Joe Montana....and the seats were filled for years.... I was wondering what kind of "montana move" king carl has up his sleeve??? Bret Favre was the only thing I could think of unless he could pull some magic act and sign a Julius Peppers and a stud defensive tackle.... I think Carl may be out of magic tricks to keep butts in the seats at Arrowhead....

It would be amazing if everyone just bought a parking ticket and tailgated outside and then watched the game on a TV in the parking lot...
50,000 fans outside out cheering 30,000 inside would be a moment that I would want to be a part of !!! We would want this to happen during a sellout however, just so the network would show King Carl on the TV looking like --- WTF is going on here ?? But then again -- it WOULD still be a sellout of tickets... This could be a good way to protest Carl "Pocket My Wallet" Peterson though...

KCTV will buy the tickets to ensure the game wont get blackout. Chief games are by far the most watched tv in the city and would kill ratings if they are not on.
