MU receiver Alexander tears ACL graft, will miss start of season

MU receiver Alexander tears ACL graft, will miss start of season
By MIKE DeARMOND
The Kansas City Star

Missouri receiver Danario Alexander will miss at least the nonconference part of the Tigers’ upcoming football season, having torn a graft on his anterior cruciate ligament, a repair to his left knee that he underwent after last season.

“The rest of the knee looked good,” MU spokesman Chad Moller said Saturday afternoon. “There’s no damage to the meniscus or anything else.”

However, the injury is to the same knee that was surgically repaired after Alexander injured it during the Big 12 Conference Championship against Oklahoma.

A junior-to-be who played as a true freshman, Alexander has a redshirt season available. But for right now, Moller said, MU hopes Alexander is available by the Big 12 Conference season in October.

“If you get into the middle of the season and something isn’t right,” Moller said, “he’d have the option to redshirt. But right now the hope is that he will be ready to play.”

Alexander began last season as a starter, but suffered a broken wrist in the season-opening victory over Illinois in St. Louis.

That opened the door to Jeremy Maclin, who went onto an All-American season. Maclin and Alexander roomed together last season, and Alexander said during spring football that Maclin had been a big help in helping with his rehabilitation from the knee injury.

“He’s been through this before and knows what it takes to come back quickly,” Alexander said in April.

Maclin tore his ACL in the summer before his true freshman year. He sat out that season and then broke out as a redshirt freshman last year.

Alexander caught 37 passes in 10 games last season, averaging 11.3 yards a catch. As a true freshman, the 6-5, 210-pound receiver caught 15 passes in 13 games for a 16.7-yard average per catch.

Alexander complained of pain in the knee on Monday and underwent an MRI later in the week. That examination revealed the torn repair to his ACL.

Alexander’s injury may open the door to a star wideout in MU’s latest recruiting class, Rolandis Woodland from St. Louis.

Goddamnsonofvabitchmutherfuckinshit.

This is a blow. DA came up with some huge games for us last year, including Nebraska and KU.

One receiver won't kill us with the spread offense that we run, but I'd really hate to see someone like Maclin or Coffman get hurt.
