Build a Video Editing Computer

My sister is wanting me to build her a computer that she can do video editing on for a side job. She is looking to spend between 700-900 dollars for a souped up machine. She wants to order all the parts and have me build the computer and throw Windows 10 on it. I don't need to buy the license because I already have access to those.

So I come to the great wisdom of Chiefsplanet for your recommendation. Lets build the best video editing computer we can for that price range. She is not a gamer at all so we don't need to go that path. Thanks in advance.

Just buy whatever with the fastest CPU, 32 GB of RAM and a large SSD you can afford. Done.

She is going to need a decent video card to run her video editing software. However, I know we have some real computer enthusiast here that could probably steer me for the most bang for her buck type of thing. She was originally going to just buy a factory made computer but since I am IT she decided I should custom build it for her.

So we are talking case/motherboard/cpu/power supply/fan/video card/ram/hard drive. Decisions, Decisions.

Says who?

You really don't. Skimp on the video card and put the money into the CPU. Get the fastest i7 you can afford.

She was originally wanting to do her editing in 4K in Adobe Premiere. However, I am pretty sure that type of system is way out of her price range. She is basically going to edit together clips for exercise and yoga instructionals.

Since I started working in IT, I don't know how many people I've told that I'm not a windows admin, so I can't fix their computer. I don't have ANY knowledge of apple's product line, so don't ask about your Mac.... I try to explain that I'm a firewall admin, and that's where my knowledge is focused. All I get in return is a blank stare, and a "soo, can you fix it?"

Graphics chew GPU.

I've got an i7 and a decent video card for gaming (7770). The card is my bottleneck.

This isn't gaming dude. You need lots of ram, an i7, a fair sized SSD, and a big HHD for storing files. Made a quick list from PCPartpicker. If she needs a dvd player/burner add that too.

Yes but not video editing. You do not need a high end card for that. It is CPU and RAM intensive.

That absolutely does not need to be in 4K.

720p will be fine.
