2012 Kansas City Royals Repository Thread

2012 Slogan: Our Time

A better, more accurate 2012 Slogan: It is Finally Next Year
(from Great Expectations)

An alternative slogan if you don't like that one: Someone has to win this crappy division
(from alnorth)

With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:

Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

Quote:
If you locate something of interest.. ANYTHING.. deals on apparel, best ways in/out of the stadium, giveaways, great stories from this season or from seasons gone by, rumors, trades, anything.... feel free to post it here.

Hitting third (202 AB), Billy's line:

.277/.338/.455

Hitting fourth (133 AB), BIlly's line:
.323/.408/.534

Surprised me a little, but it looks like Billy is more comfortable in the 4-hole.

Pretty small sample size there to draw that conclusion, but certainly worth looking into.

Hosmer has the ability to be a great 3-hole hitter, but he's just been awful this year.

My 2013 Opening Day Lineup - and a lineup I think we can win with :
1. Gordon - LF
2. Escobar - SS
3. Hosmer - 1B
4. Butler - DH
5. Myers - RF
6. Moustakas - 3B
7. Perez - C
8. Cain - CF
9. Giovatella (or trade) - 2B
** Yuni and Dyson are sent packing to Siberia - both contracts expire at the end of this year

Now, the pitching for '13 looks awful, but with a silver lining from me:
1. Garza ( )
2. Hochevar (turning 29 this year, amazing that he is still handled like a young prospect at times)
3. Chen (last year of contract in '13 - can we milk another year as he turns 36 in '13?)
4. Mendoza (another pitcher turning 29 for the Royals - a decent 5 for most Clubs)
5. Smith (I think this kid has some promise, or maybe it's blind hope for me )
** Duffy likely won't be available until after the start of the '13 season (May?)
** Paulino likely out until at least July '13.

I wouldn't mind seeing Cain and Escobar switched.

Moose Tacos at # 6? Seems like you would want him at #5 and Myers at 6 until you figure out what Myers has.

I think Myers has the capability to bat anywhere from 2-5. Moose at 6 is more natural than Myers. JMHO

BTW, Mendoza's contract expires at the end of '12, but I fully expect them to re-sign him, especially given our shortage of SP's.

Perez and Cain are making strong cases for the necessity of them hitting much higher in the order.

We want our best hitters getting the most ABs. Aside from this, not too much matters, but we're looking like we might have several viable combinations, which is pretty cool for a change.

apparently Guthrie is now the 2nd highest paid Royal next to Billy Butler

so the Royals helped Colorado dump salary?

huh. Not bad. We need an inning eater for this year to rescue our pen, which is already clearly worn.

Wow. Guthrie's numbers suggest that he's a steaming pile of shit, too. Basically, these two organizations went to each other's houses, dropped upper deckers, told each other about it, and shook hands.

Our time.

Piece of shit was making 8.2 this year. If we are assuming money, DM is far dumber than any of us have suggested.

Check his home and away splits. It's not as bad as it looks. He's given up twice as many HR at home in 20% fewer innings. Colorado is a shitty place to pitch for a pitcher like him.
