Free agents I really, really dig for the Chiefs.

Here is a list of some free agents I think the Chiefs should pursue.

Keep in mind, this team has things it likes in every position, meaning it likes big, blocking tight ends and tall, rangey CBs.

Also, it's worth keeping in mind that even if the team cuts Hali, Fasano, Daniel, DeVito, Berry, and so on... it's not going to have a lot of cap space.

So here's the B- and C-tier free agents the Chiefs should pursue:

RB Joe McKnight (Chiefs) -- The Chiefs need a 3rd down threat if Charles goes down. McKnight looked great in the role.
WR Jermaine Kearse (Seahawks) -- Gets open very quickly, excellent in possession and deep.
WR Dane Sanzenbacher (Bengals) -- Excellent route-runner in the intermediate.
TE Lance Kendricks (Rams) -- Strong blocker, great hands, very young. Languishing with shitty QBs.
TE Niles Paul (Redskins) -- Very athletic TE, not so much a Dorsey proto-type, but could create matchup issues.
OT Jeromey Clary (Chargers) -- Could be our Ryan Harris in 2015. Reliable swing tackle who can start.
OG Dan Connelly (Patriots) -- Starting-caliber OG who can be plugged in for a year.
NT Johnny Jolly (Packers) -- Excellent push from the middle of the pocket. Gigantic guy, could take a deal due to his age.
DE Kevin Vickerson (Chiefs) -- Reliable run-stuffer who looked really good in limited time.
OLB Brooks Reed (Texans) -- Fantastic backup passrusher. Very young, could be great in rotation with Ford.
ILB Akeem Jordan (Redskins) -- Swap out Mays for a guy that looked very good in our system in 2013.
CB Shareece Wright (Chargers) -- If the Chargers let this guy would, we should ink him longterm as a #2 caliber CB.
CB Kyle Wilson (Jets) -- Good return man and a decent #3 or #4 option at CB.
K Justin Tucker (Ravens) -- I can't see the Ravens letting him go, but he's a young, reliable kicker.

According to Reid it has something to do with the fact that the snap and hold have not been very good recently. We did just sign another Long Snapper, granted it was to the practice squad.
Whether we all like it or not we are stuck with Santos for another year or two.

I'm surprised so many people are turning up their noses at value signings. Hasn't it been made abundantly clear that big money free agency is for suckers?

Not really, no.

Building you team based primarily on big money free agents is for suckers.

Adding a high priced guy here or there helps get you over the top...

Connelly is not, in fact, a "starting-caliber OG". He starts for the Patriots, but that unfortunately does not render him "starting caliber".

Patriots fans are rooting for drafting at least one if not two guards reasonably high in the draft next year. And if we lose in the playoffs, it will probably be because some guard blew it. Both of them are pretty damn mediocre.

No thanks to either of those receivers, I'd rather just draft two guys in the upper rounds if those are our choices.

Connolly would work for a few years while we groom a draftee though.

Lol the Chiefs could have Jordan now if they wanted. He was waived a few weeks ago but the guy is done.

So if we lose all those guys, where the F does all our money go? I get we pay Houston, and we have Charles and Smith signed. DJ and Poe make a lot of money, yes? Sean Smith? Who else? Seems like Denver can sign every top notch free agent available. Every year. What gives?

Denver is signing every top notch free agent available because they have Peyton Manning.

And to respond to the OP, the Chiefs have plenty of cap space as long as you recognize that we can defer bonuses. This year was a bad year to spend money. Next year is a great year to do it.

1) They don't waste ****ing draft picks on people to intentionally be ****ing back ups.

2) They have done very good in the draft the last 4 years. Not just rounds 3-5, they've manage to add productive offensive talent that plays.

3) The way they structure contracts. The guys they sign have the potential to make a lot of money but the deals are always franchise-friendly/easy to back out of.

Hakeem Nicks maybe? This team needs to add free agent OL and WR along with drafting one at both spots.

I'll take your word as to these dudes being upgrades. But first and foremost, wide receivers with an emphasis on receiving.
